C-17 At SYD, Blurry, Some Guidance!

Mon May 29, 2006 8:28 am

Hi all,

I have in recent months, not questioned rejections all that much as I can now usually recognise what the screeners see...once they point it out!!!
http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...e=20060528_060514-6839-03-3122.jpg

This one puzzles me a little though, blurry, the A/C looks pretty good to me whilst I do admit the fences both in front of and behind the plane do show some signs of blur.. a lit DOF combined with the tiniest trace of motion.. perhaps.

Just curious what others might think.

Cheers

Looks good to me Chris.

Maybe a little soft towards the top of the tail, but nothing normally I'd worry about.

How many are there already of this reg in the DB? I'm thinking you've been a victim of the new harsher screening here. Seems a lot of the "regulars" are being caught out at the minute.

Regards,

Tim.

Hey Chris,

Everything from the winglet back seems to be blurry - and I mean on the aircraft!!

But super shot. Can't wait till the RAAF get their's!

Quoting DC10Tim (Reply 1):

Only 5 including an outstanding shot by Glenn Stewart taken a few moments earlier from a different location.

Quoting Eadster (Reply 2):
and I mean on the aircraft!!

Perhaps a touch, perhaps I was expecting that, those 2 big P&W F-117s do produce a bit of heat.

Besides Martin, what are you doing lurking here and not out capturing all that unusual traffic that LST is hosting today?

Cheers

Chris

Yeah it's mainly around the top part of the tail. That's what my monitors here are showing.

Quoting StealthZ (Reply 3):

Because the climax of this exciting traffic isn't till around lunch time. I'll be there then!!

Then they all return later so I'll be back there then!!

Gone...

On the advice of some folks I listen to I appealed this shot, sometime the next day it disapeared out of the appeal queue( I had checked that it had been appealed correctly and WAS in the queue) more than 18 hrs later I have received no email saying it was accepted/rejected it is not on the db .. just gone.

I will post in site related a little later in the day.

UPDATE: As luck (or Murphy's Law) would have it an email arrived from the Head Screeners minutes after I posted this message, the photo has been rejected on appeal.
This shot looks great printed A4 size without any discernable blurriness to these eyes, so for the personal collection it is.

Regards

This is a weird one.

This may come down to what you said previously about monitors.

I checked that shot on my home monitor, and there was not noticable blur there, but here at work it showed that basically the back half of the aircraft was blurred, but ever so slightly.

Thanks Martin,

Without any additional guidance apart from yours I have no idea what to do to improve this photo, certainly nothing enlightening from the screening team.

As I said.. guess it stays in the personal file!!!

Cheers

Chris

PS how did you go Monday?

Yeah some help would be good on how to fix as its a rare shot - wouldn't see that there everyday.

Quoting StealthZ (Reply 9):

Went ok, pictures are a bit dodgy but the airport has never been that busy before. Aircraft were holding on taxiways and the runway before parking bays became free. It was good to see and won't see it again for a long time.

I have told Chris that my eyes might be going on me as i cant see any blur but like martin said if there is some but ever so slightly it could be from the jet blast after hitting the runway and bouncing back ever slightly having that effect.
Wouldn't that be passable.
Its a great shot that deserves its spot in the Database.

Chris

Yes, it deserves to be in the database but image is blurry or out of focus at the back end.

If willing, send me the original to look at. If not, try processing again with some selective sharpening on the affected area.

Chris... thanks. But I thought it was so-so.
The light on the day was terrible as I think you would agree.

I think that it is rare enough that it deserves a complete re-work in order for it to finally get up on database.

That's for sure! And it doesn't look to get any better.
Mind you... it is winter.

Finally... I can look out my window and see the harbour (yes, I know it's 5:30pm and pitch black outside)....

Javier... I think it was a case of just enough and just rare enough for us to warrant accepting. Besides, it's a great shot  Smile

Now... I just can't wait for the Royal Australian Air Force to receive their new billion dollar babies...
Also bring on the new RAAF A330 refueller and RAAF Wedgetail.

My imagination, or is my government spending too much of my taxes on new aircraft for me to photograph? Cool  Smile

Hi, Glenn! Did you notice the smilie?  Smile I am always happy that a shot gets accepted, those I do not care for I do not need to open, right? What I do not like and never will are rejections...  Wink

Javier... you're a man with rarely a boring shot. As I've mentioned before, you push the envelope, and I like that. Unfortunately you push it back and forth between accept and reject.

The end result though is still a collection of stunning shots.

Btw... Big hello from freezing cold Sydney. It's been a while since your visit and I'm still itching to get to Madrid.

Javier,

Btw... keep an eye out in Madrid for the very RAAF A330 MRTT I speak of above. The aircraft is currently in Madrid getting tanker modifications done.
