Dark And Contrast Rejections

Sat Jun 03, 2006 5:12 am

Hi all,

ANOTHER REJECTION. This time for dark. I originally uploaded 25 shots from my trip to MAN on May 2nd. Only 2 got in, most rejected as being soft.

Went back through them all reworked my best and now i've just got another truck load of rejections as dark and contrast. I'm baffled, I really am. I mean, the sun wasnt out of course the photos will be darker...... The histograms are ok, they dont show anything out of the ordinary.

I had also posted a few before uploading and it seemed I need that extra kick of contrast. Obviously that didnt work either. A new upload requirement. Only take photos in perfect light..... bomb

Please have a look

Wheels and engines intakes are pure black ... too dark. Don't over-do the level correction ...

Definitely seem a bit dark, with lack of contrast, especially the last two.

Exactly like the 2 I got accepted from that bunch.

with lack of contrast,

Lack of? Well i'll take it that they were screwed from the moment I took them then because I have made edit upon edit of these photos and they just dont seem to be right.

I know i'm 23 but my eyes arent that bad yet

Contrast is OK IMO. Avoid shooting in these conditions, you can even see how the taxi lights light up the fuselage ...

Well no matter what A.net screeners say, I love the BMI shot and it's in my personal collection as of now!  Wink

The BA shot is indeed a little dark but should be easy to correct.
The Lufthansa shot has some softness issues at the front part (nose and nose gear); don't think this will be correctable.
It's quite apparent that A.net doesn't want shots taken in poor light anymore; I guess that since we have a large amount of European (especially UK  Wink) screeners, they are fed up with the poor weather here and as soon as they see such a shot in the screening process they click on the reject button as a natural reaction to their mood.  Wink
So if you wanna have shots accepted go shoot in sunny weather or copy/paste a big sun and maybe some turquoise water and a little white sand into the image in post-processing; sadly I guess the latter will give you a bad manipulation.  Wink

Well when you buy a plane ticket months in advance, you have no choice

At least you're close to MAN.

It would take me 25 hours of flying to get there and I think I'd stay the while to ensure at least one sunny day. If it's anything like Sydney though, when it rains - it pours. Every other day in Sydney is sunny  Smile
