Dirty Rejection - Can't Find The Dust Spot

Wed Jun 21, 2006 4:29 am

Hi everybody,

I got a dirty-rejection for this one:
http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/rejections/big/20060620_psc1661.jpg

but I can't find the dust spot or whatever it is that caused this rejection. If it is the dark spot at the fuselage near the nose gear - I think this is not a dust spot. Here is a cutout of the raw original image:

Thanks for your help,
Bjoern

I've equalized the image and I cant see any dust spots either. I guess someone more profesional needs to look at it.

So did I! I even equalized the image in PS and I could barely see them. Very critical rejection, if I might say.

I have to say that I agree with that. I equalised it and had to look VERY hard to find the spot above the cockpit. I say THE spot 'cos I never saw the second one ! I was too busy looking at a very nice, well exposed and framed pic of the aircraft.

I equalised the image as posted by Bjoern and have to admit these are pretty minor spots and IMHO a tough rejection but that raises an interesting question that I have not seen an answer to in the past.
Do the screeners when performing their task, view the orginal image as uploaded by the contributor or the substantially more compressed version as ultimately hosted by A.net?

Interested to know the answer to that one!

Regards

Chris

Thank you for your help guys! Thank you Globalpics, without your circles I couldn't have had any chance to find them!

I have only two plasma-screens but it is long ago that I had a dust spot rejection. With the equalizing function and very careful looking I got them all in the past. I think there will allways be a small amount of dirt at any picture - it is like if you clean up a room, someone else will allways find dirt anywhere.

So the question is how hard do we need to look at to detect the very faintest dust spot? I think, if a dust spot is invisible as long as you (or the best screener) look without using help like equalize the image or magnify it, for who will this dust spot be a problem? Tim, did you find it without any kind of help? If yes - then I think a rejection is the right decision, if not, then its worth we all discuss about it.

Yes I did, none of the screeners use any kind of equalizing tools to find dustspots. I just move the pic from side to side, this way dustspots easily show up.

I did it exactly the same way but the dust spot remains invisible for me, maybe due to my monitor. Then no discussion anymore, I'm gonna re-edit and re-upload the pic and think about buying a better monitor (cause I cant buy better eyes...  Smile )

Thanks again,
Bjoern

Bjoern, you should be congratulated and praised for your positive attitude towards this, so often a thread like this starts negatively and ends even more so. We've all learn't something from this, great job guys  highfive

One extra note is the fact that you know now that there is some dirt on your sensor (it will also be noticeable on any further shots you take), and at least you now know where to look for them and remove them (or better, clean the sensor/have the sensor cleaned).  Smile

PS: we can all learn from every rejection!

Best regards and good luck with the re-upload, it is a nice picture!
