DC-10 Demolition Photo - Any Chance?

Fri Jun 30, 2006 2:43 am

Hi all,

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/big/ready/N602GCptr.jpg

Do you think there is any chance for this one? It's a bit awkward, but it will very probably be the last photo of N602GC, and I personally like the detail on the tail section.

Can't see any major quality flaws.

Didn't know they are breaking up their DC-10's, I have seen this one at FRA last year.  Sad

Where did you take the photo?

Cheers,
Phil / EDDL

Chalons - Vatry (XCR / LFOK)

There's also a DC-8 on death row, ST-UAA

That is a really sad pic. I love the DC-10.

I think it will either be rejected or be top of the day.  Smile

My concern is on the motive front  Smile

I could be wrong, but that doesn't look like this DC10 is getting broken up. Looks like a plain old #2 engine change to me. The cables are used to lower the engine to the ground.

What makes me think that this is NOT a "breakup" photo? There is ground power on the aircraft (cable next to nosegear), engines #1 and #3 are still present, and there is no visible damage to the aircraft at all. The tail is designed to open up like this to permit installation and removal of the #2 engine.

Of course - I wasn't there. Perhaps this was day one of the breakup. My point is that the photo is not necessarily indicative of an aircraft in "demolition."

Oh and by the way - I'm sure the motive ghestapo will shoot this one down. They've been VERY cranky lately. I'll have a thread on this later on...

I'd rather shoot BAD_MOTIVE

Andrew,

What you're saying is true I suppose.

However, this remote corner of this airfield doesn't look like a maintenance area. Also, other aircraft have been scrapped at this location:

I think it's likely they're removing the engines before scrapping this DC-10.

Still, thanks for the correction.
