Which Should I Buy?

Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:42 pm

I have the Nikon D70,(for 2 years) Nikkors 28-200f3.5-5.6G-ED, 70-300f4-5.6D-ED, and the Sigma 70-200f2.8 APO DG HSM-EX.....all of which I am very happy with, especially the Sigma.
I am now in a position to be able to upgrade my gear, so am looking for some advice/opinions from you guys.
My first considerations, after looking at the specs. and reviews are the Nikon D200....OR the Nikon 80-400 VR lens.
Should I go for the D200 and a TC for the Sigma lens, or stay with the well used D70 and put the 80-400 VR on the front??
I must say, the extra quality the D200 offers is very appealing, but so is Nikons VR....though most of the time, reach is not really a problem in my shooting locations.
Any help/thoughts on this matter will be much appreciated....

regards to all,
Paul.  Wink

Sell the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, buy a Nikon 70-200 VR, a 2x teleconverter, and a wide angle, like maybe the Tokina 12-24.

Agreed, the 70-200mm is an awesome lense which ive had much pleasure in using. I wouldn't buy a 2x teleconverter, its verys soft and you see quite a difference in quality. Ive got the 1.7 and that can be a bit dodgy sometimes. The 1.4x on the other hand is perfect, no loss of quality and its very sharp. This if of course for a Nikon one, so it might differ on something like a Kenko. Id say your alright with a 28mm using as a wide angle, unless you want to be even wider. The lense and converter set me back around £1700, so you might not have much change out of it

Hope this helps
