I need a cheap ish fairly decent digital camera thats suitable for taking photos at LBA or MAN , any reccomendations?

For what purpose? Uploading to a.net, or your own personal collection?

What sort of question is that, I would think there should not be much of a distinction between taking quality photos for one's self or for Anet.

I just bought a Fuji Finepix S9500, it is a 9mp prosumer camera with a 10x (300mm) opitcal zoom. I gave it it's first run out at the RIAT yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with the results, though I did go through 5 packs of batteries in 8 hours. If you go for it though be careful where you buy it from I've seen it priced between £320 and £600 on various websites, I bought mine from amazon.

There is a huge difference, notably in the areas of composition, centering, and cropping. Try applying the rule of thirds on Anet and see how many acceptances you get ...

I use a Fuji s5600 for my own persoanl purposes and it is doing me fine. Just need to remember to buy rechargable batteries!

How much have you got to spend?

I've gotten alot of good shots with a simple Canon Powershot A75. All the Powershot series are great for a basic digital cam. Only downside is that you are limited to 4x optical zoom, and the digital zoom gets a bit grainey.

Absolutely agree but these factors are independant of camera choice

I have been happy with my Lumix DMC-FZ5. It combines the advanced electronics of Panasonic and a fine Leica lens (for much less than a Leica brand camera). As I cannot afford a true digital SLR, this one has most of the features you would find on one. The best feature is the 12X optical zoom; my only complaint is that you have to purchase a specialized battery if you want to carry a spare (a good idea if you are doing a lot of shooting at one time, such as at an air show). The 12X telephoto (400 mm equivalent is really handy when you have to shoot from a parking lot. I got mine 2 years ago, so I don't know how much prices and models have changed; I got a good deal and excellent service from J&R in New York City (over the Internet). The camera has gotten very good reviews.

Not much, just want a decent camera to use for some amatuer photography and trip reports
