What Do You Guys Think?

Sat Jul 22, 2006 2:29 am

This is my second attempt at submitting a photo to a.net. The first photo was rejected, and I'd like to know if you guys think this stands a chance, and if not, how should I change it?

Hi Brian,

At least I feel it isn't properly levelled. Some CCW rotation is needed.

OK, I can understand that, but why was this one rejected? The reason given was "quality", but I just don't understand. They really should have the screeners give a better explaination.

It looks soft and grainy, IMHO.

Well, I have a 5mp camera. Is that too low? What is the minimum MP you guys reccomend? I'm also using Photoshop CS to edit the photos.

Hi Brian,

First I suggest you should crop the photo and resize your image in 1024 x 683, and do some sharpening work on the plane itself. And there is a document elaborating the whole editing process. It's very easy to follow. And I believe your image will benefit from it.

Hope it helps!

I'd have to agree with the quality rejection. There's just too much .jpg compression which is certainly a quality issue. Is this photo straight of the camera?

Hi all

For future screener applicants:

Jpeg compression, distance, centred and only very slight angle (passable)

Brian, probably your camera settings at fault here. Make sure the very best quality is selected. Possible your processing.

Can you upload your original image for us to see?

For a ground shot like that, 5mp should be more than enough.

For a 1600x1200 picture? Perhaps. But you can shrink that down to 1024x768 or 1024x683 and 5MP is probably just fine.

You also need to sharpen and recrop the image. Personally, I like how you used the rule of thirds, but for this site, you need to put the plane in the center of the frame for most shots.

Finally, I'd boost the contrast just a little. Just be careful that you don't make the tires so contrasty that you lose detail.

nice shot!
