The Joys, Or Not, Of Uploading To A.net

Tue Jul 25, 2006 1:17 am

The joys and frustrations of uploading to a.net are legend.

Every time I upload a batch of shots and have most accepted, I start to think "This is actually not that hard. What are all these people with their rejection complaints on about?"

Then BAM!  fight

I have more than half of a batch rejected and my acceptance ratio heads south (with the new upload limits, it's actually way south).

For me, this is the bitter-sweet truth of uploading here. I fluctuate between thinking I'm a decent aviation photographer and a good user of Photoshop, to wondering why I even have a camera and that I really suck at Photoshop.

I'm not bitching at anyone about anything, just making my feelings known (in case you didn't guess, I'm on a down cycle!) I guess the acid test is - will I continue to upload to a.net? You bet, I love it here! yes

p.s. Keep up the great work screeners!

A.NET for me is just a question of standards... When a shot gets into the database, it means that it is a good one, if not, it isn't... Just that...

Is there a little sarcasm here? I hope so.

JeffM, You contribute a lot to this forum, and I sincerely thank you for that. Unfortunately, you do also contribute nearly as many negatively sarcastic posts as you do positive ones.

I was trying to provide some balance to the seemingly never-ending "Why was this shot rejected, it's my best ever." type threads. I clearly stated that I wasn't bitching about my rejections, just the ups and downs of getting a high proportion accepted, followed by a high proportion rejected.

I have managed to get nearly 600 shots accepted here, so clearly I can sometimes do something right. I don't believe you'll find a single "bitching thread" that I've started complaining about any rejections I've ever received.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. In this instance I believe you've missed my point. But what the hell, this is only the Internet.

So Anet's rules are the be-all and end-all of all aviation photography then are they?? Think again. You've never been more wrong...

A rejected shot means that it does not comply with Anet's rules. It does not mean that it's a bad shot.

I think this may prove to be a very quotable pair of sentences.

Rejections are part and parcel of what is...A.net. I mainly use it as an online library, where I can link my own work, try to sell a pic or two in the process or just give others an opportunity to have a peek at my photos. A.net is, in the most part, a pretty good site, meeting point and forum.

Yes you can. Your "opinion" that a photo isn't good for being rejected here is untrue on many levels. The fact that you look at photographs through the eyes of an a.net screener is sad.

And that is my opinion, therefore I can't be wrong.  Yeah sure

What a pickle, I don't know what's more stupid here: Being neither right nor wrong or the other reply.

Great stuff.
