Quality And Identification Help

Thu Jul 27, 2006 3:42 pm

I have a picture here that I know, if it was of a larger more common aircraft at a airport would definitely not be accepted. However I am wondering what you think about this as I could not find anything in the database that would match this registration. (The registration is 5H-R*Y) It is possible though unlikely that the last character is a V but from the photograph I have of the tail number (which just happens to have a head obscuring the middle letter totally and the ending character so that all there is is a small part visible I think it is a Y). The airstrip at which this photograph was taken from also has yet to appear in the database (Grumeti Airstrip located in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania). I have photos of similar quality of two other rarer aircraft, one of them a twin otter not in database at Manyara (I think), and the other of a 406 at both Grumeti and another location (the 406 being of an airline/charter company, which has no photos currently in the database).

Basically I'm asking these two things.
A) Does what is lacking in quality doom any chances of acceptance or is it worth it to try due to the fact that the aircraft and airstrip would be new to the database.
B) Does anybody know for sure what plane this is. I think it is a 401 (6 windows on this one, 6 on the 401, fewer on the other iterations I looked at which share the same rather pointy nose.)
C) Which picture that I've linked to, if any, would be a better choice for submission, I'd go with the full plane shot from an angle but there are a few people in the pic which are not found in the other so I'm not sure)

I'm including links to two pictures (These are the original resolution, files are over 5mb)

Lower Resoltuion ones below (cut down to 1200 width, approximately 1mb)

Thanks so much for any help

I took the plunge and downloaded the first.
It took a while but I'm thinking the quality is not there for these shots.
Try to put them in your profile or a website as this downloading the info would be a bit too much for some with slow connections.

You don't have to download them per se. YOu can just ivew them in your browser. I know the quality is not that good but I really didn't expect to see an aircraft at the strip when we went out of the Serengeti on our way to Lake Victoria (in a safari car of course). I had to quickly get the camer out and didn't get a chance to change the settings, really wish I had as I like 371s angle a lot. I'll try to get some lower resolution versions of these up.

Quoting SkyvanMan (Reply 2):

When you click on the link it makes you download the entire file before you can view it.
That is downloading into the browser but it could be me having a bad connection day  Smile

Andrew unless the aircraft will never be photographed again at that location IMO i dont think the screeners would consider it but then again i am known to be wrong  Smile

Don't know why it makes you download it, you must not be using Firefox. If you are using IE there should be a setting somewhere to view links with an image file extension in browser.

Even if you view in any browser, its the same as downloading. Just goes into your cache.

I agree though, I don't think the quality is quite there on these shots.

I believe its a Cessna 404 Titan. A regular type at my local airport.

Thanks for both of your help. I'm gonna see if any of the other ones I got are any better at the other places as I used a D100 for the other two and for one of them the light was horrible...I have yet to come across those on the cards though.
