Rejection Help: Color, Soft

Tue Aug 01, 2006 3:17 am

Hi all,

Another two rejections...damn, I'm getting good at this!  praise

Color and soft:

I'd expect a slight yellow/orange cast given the surrounding lights and time of day (or night, rather), though apparently it's too much. To me, it doesn't look hideously skewed to one end of the spectrum over the other, but maybe you guys see something I don't. What colors should I be stifling here?

It looks pretty darn sharp to me, too, but I suppose I can try another hit of USM. Unless, of course, the screeners were referring to the DOF issue in the top of the frame.

Soft:

Is it the whole image? If not, what parts? It looks pretty good to me as is, so I'll take your guys' word for it and hope for the best next time 'round.

Any worth an appeal?

Thanks,

Brian

Brian, the first shot has a strong yellow/orange cast, try messing with the white balance, or adjust it in PS. It also needs more USM.

Not sure about the second, it looks soft...I took several BA 747 shots over a few days in PHX and for some reason they all looked slightly out of focus, I don't know why, seems like your shot suffers in the same way. It also looks like it needs a little CW rotation?

Considering you have 413 photos in the database I wouldn't worry about it  Wink

The cokcpit is blurry on the left, doubt it can be saved.

BA is nice, maybe could do with some selective sharpening on the tail.

Much better on both in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, Royal and Tim. Will adjust the color in the "cokcpit"  Wink shot and see if I can salvage the left side too while I'm at it. For the BA, I'll tread carefully when applying more USM so as to avoid jaggies and grain. Might take a stab at some CW rotation, too...thanks.

Nicolas, both of those edits look good. Comparing your take at the cockpit shot with mine, the color cast is definitely obvious. Weird how that happens!  Smile
