Help! The Colours On My Screen Are Way Off!

Tue Aug 15, 2006 5:07 am

Hello fellas.

I was just browsing through photos I had photographed today and found out the the colours on my screen are way off. The whites of one aircraft I photographed are too green-ish.

Are there any free monitor calibration programs out there?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Aero

Get yourself a Spyder2 Express.

Fantastic little calibrator that will not break the bank.

Could very well be your camera and not your monitor.

Well, I don't understand how that's possible...

The whites were very good on my camera screen...

Every other photos I've taken have a greenish cast too on the whites, though taken with for example a 5D.

Your white balance on the camera could be incorrectly selected.

Thanks Gary...

Could you tell me what I should use?

I use AWB all the time. I never dare to use something else because I'm so afraid of selecting something stupid...

That kind of 'humor' is for Non Av.

How can the white balance just change if nothing has been changed in the camera? I think 90& it is the screen, and I am asking for calibration programme. I got it, so I request this thread to be locked.

That is why it is called AUTO White balance. It judges a color to be white at that time, and in that lighting condition. It could change every 10 seconds depending on the conditions you're shooting in. Just like your AF will adjust to the correct exposure, if you use Auto modes, just like the aperture and shutter settings will adjust to the appropriate setup.

Why don't you just post a few samples from the days shoot? Because if it's the WB, then we'll see that it's off on our screens as well. And if it was your monitor, all your whites would be off, not just your one set of photos.

David,

I don't know what this package costs abroad, but buying it here in Iceland would come close to "breaking the bank" - Christopher Lund has it for sale for IKR 12.450.

I to have seldom ventured into the land of manual-configured white balance, preferring to use the auto white balance setting.

How do the photos appear on the Mac? Does the white balance seem okay there?

I know from experience that Iceland is expensive, but that's about 50% more expensive than the UK.
