I've Decided To Buy The Canon EOS 30D

Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:25 pm

After much consternation and research, I have decided upon purchasing the well reviewed Canon EOS 30D.

I considered the Nikon D70S (nice, but still only 6.1MP); Nikon D200 (Awesome, but far too expensive with good lenses) and Canon EOS 350D (Nice, but the 30D is only a few hundred $$ more).

I am on a budget, but would like to know what lenses I should consider buying? I am also very, very new to digital photography and would like to develop my skills in aviation photography much further.

My first 'real' digital camera was the Panasonic DMC-FZ30. This is a nice bit of kit, but suffers at higher ISO settings (greater than ISO 100) and in poor light. Also, annoying abberations appear in all four corners of an image when the zoom lens is used at full extension 12X (420mm).

Time to buy a DSLR. Now I need advice on lenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please remember I am only a novice at this stage, but believe I should invest in the right equipment in the first instance.

Cheers,

Hey Graham!

I got the 30D last week. You can get a great deal from www.camrastore.com.au. They have great service and super fast delivery! It took less that 24 hrs to ship it from Adelaide to Country Western Australia. I would go with them! They sell the body only for $1999. it is cheap IMO!

Thanks

Although it is nice to have all the L glass lenses in your bag if im completly honest starting off in photography the basic 75-300 / 18-55 arn't all that bad. Learn with these (improving as you go as well with PS skills) then once you have a bit more cash go for the L series.

I started off with 75-300 / 18-55 and now am all L 24-105L/100-400L with the 18-55 as a last resort wide angle.

Hope this helps in your decisions..

Thankyou gentlemen for your informative and prompt responses.

I've had one photo accepted already (using my Nikon Coolpix 3700) and am awaiting the result of two other submissions.

What a fantastic website this is !  Big grin

I have the 70-200mm f4 L and i think is the best value/price.
I was starting with the 75-300mm lens and is a great lens for learn photography. 80% of my shoot here was taking with this lens and the Canon D60. couple are accepted with the 70-200mm f4 L lens and D60

Now i just upgrade to a 30D but waiting for my first acceptance with this combo (30D+70-200 f4 L) couple rejection after !!!
