Having recently upgraded to this amazing camera and taken some initial pictures, I was surprised to find that Photoshop CS
would not recognize the D200's Nikon NEF file (it works fine for my D100 NEF files). At first when I tried to open a D200 NEF file in CS
it said something like "disk error". I downloaded the most up to date version of the Adobe Camera Raw file for CS
, and made sure to disable to the Nikon-equivalent plugins for CS
(which can sometimes cause the ACR to only appear as a very limited tool in CS
instead of appearing in its full glory), but then I got a different message essentially telling me that the NEF file was the "wrong" file type. After much research on the internet, including on Adobe's website, I have concluded that the only way to edit a D200 NEF file in Photoshop is to upgrade to CS2, which includes the newest version of Adobe Camera Raw that supports the D200. Can anyone who is shooting with a D200 confirm or otherwise comment upon my situation?
On a related note, I also found that the version of Nikon View that I was using in connection with my D100 to transfer files from memory cards to the computer, and to view those photos graphically in a directory format on the computer, appears to not recognize the D200 NEF files either. The image transfer crashed every time when I tried to transfer the D200 NEF files to the computer. Is there an equivalent new program that works the same as my version of Nikon View and would be compatible with the D200 NEF files? I don't really care for the Nikon Picture Perfect program that came with my D200, and would prefer not to have to use it.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
