Categories. Still Unclear! Solution Please!

Wed Aug 30, 2006 7:57 pm

Hi all!
Recently in this thread
Category Question To Editors? (by PUnmuth@VIE Aug 11 2006 in Aviation Photography)
there was a question about small stickers answered by the editors that they fit into the Colorful paint category. The plane in question was this one.

with the small 100 sticker at the front.
Now i get this one

rejected for category (amongst 3 aother reasons).
It was marked with the category Colorful and in reamrk to the screeners i explained why. And no those stickers are not on the whole fleet.
Is it possible thet the help text will finally be updated and all cre members be informed about how to handle those categories? It's been seven months now that the discussion about this issue started in
Categories "Special" And "Hybrid" (by Invader Jan 19 2006 in Aviation Photography)
and yet the help text are not updated nor is a link to the thread plcaed on the upload confirmation page to give people the correct information on which categories they have to select.
Or is the topic still under discussion????

Peter if we are to follow the rules that shot would defiantly be special paint.
Not sure why you got a rejection for it.
Why dont we go back to the days when a sticker or any small markings can be hybrid.?
Would it make more seance to have it like this ?
Cheers

There's no discussion required. I have e-mailed our Chief Database Editor (Peter) after replying to your last thread. He's quite busy at the moment (always busy that is  Smile ) and this change (upload help text, ...) cannot be done in a few minutes. This category issue has a top priority, I also want this to be changed as soon as possible.

Thanks its appreciated very much but

why cant there just be the link to the thread containing all the information be placed on the upload confirmation page. This change would take about 3 minutes or so? And it would be an interim solution to make things clearer a bit.

I think it would make much more sense than it is now but lets not get into this again. Its define otherwise now and we have to live with it when uplaoding BUT it should be lived all across the site  Wink

Just sent him a further e-mail and pointed to this thread here. That's all I can do now.  Smile

@Peter: living in France now? I am going to spend a day in VIE on Sept 23 ... so if you see four guys with a Sixt rental car you know who's in.  Wink

Why not put Special/Colourful and SpecialMarking/Hybrid together ??? Why is need for 2 different categories for nearly the same thing? I allways have problems to mark the right category .... , not to mention how many category rejects I had the recent years ....

Adding to that when you click on the Cross Data search the catagories that are 'category' field do not match those that are checked while uploading.
This also needs to be solved.

Right! Exactly what I mean .... , why offer 2 category, which are available later after uplaod under 1 category. Why are we making things complicater than needed?

So, lets get rid of the 2 and frame it into 1 category.

This is not the way it works:
There are still 2 categories after uploading:
Special on the confirmation page is COLORFUL_PAINT on cross data search.
Hybrid on the confirmation page is OTHER_PAINT on cross data search.

Thanks for doing so. Hopefully this will be solved soon!!!! And also communicated across all crew members what fits into which category.

Not sure what you mean. It's working over here.

That's right.

No, I don't think so Robin. There ARE two separate categories when searching in the database. Codeshare's point is that they have different names compared to the uploading screen, which adds to the confusion.

The question is of course, do the two separate categories make sense to the people who search in the database? Are they useful? And if you combined them, would that make sense to them and would it still be useful? I don't know the answer as I'm not into special liveries and only see these categories as an upload hindrance like yourself, but there may be another side to this.

What Codeshare means is simply this:

Quoting PUnmuth@VIE (Reply 8):
Special on the confirmation page is COLORFUL_PAINT on cross data search.
Hybrid on the confirmation page is OTHER_PAINT on cross data search.

It's confusing.

Ok guys , you are right ! But this is only for Cross Data search. On the HP these 2 categories are framed under 1 category: "Special Paint Schemes".

Why is there need to have 2 categories for nearly the same ? Why do we make things complicater than they are ?

No, there is just a link for special paint schemes (COLORFUL_PAINT).

On the photo search page you can choose from both categories:
- Colorful paint schemes (COLORFUL_PAINT)
- Other special paint schemes (OTHER_PAINT)

Well, thats exactly what I mean ....

Anyway, why do we need 2 categories for nearly the same ?

This was all discussed extensively in Categories "Special" And "Hybrid" (by Invader Jan 19 2006 in Aviation Photography)
