First off thanks to everyone for some additional comments on the motiv issue here..

Get a different lens other than that 100-400, thats the easy answer.
C'mon now... That is a bit below the belt there.. I know you are a Nikon shooter, but you know as well as I that the Canon 100-400 is one of Canon's best telephoto zoom lens and many photographers (including some of your fellow screeners) use this lens. While I do have a Canon 24-105 L, I most times like to use my 100-400 on shots like these.
I did indeed appeal the two shots before I started this thread (as stated in the beginning)... I knew that if I didn't most screeners would say to do that first... On that note I still have not had a head screener chime in as to my only question here.. What is the difference between accepting the wanula shot and rejecting (ONLY FOR
MOTIV) the Saudi and Etihad. Going by what you said

The shots were rejected because they were boring. The light was crap and the contrast both flat AND high. Add it all up and it is a motiv rejection.
I certainly hope the screeners are not rejecting images for NOA
_Motive for their OWN personal reasons for a shot being "boring". If contrast was an issue they should have also checked that, because it is a separate rejection reason all together. What is boring to you may not be boring to the next screener and this simply should not be allowed. Period. That is WAY to subjective. I am sure Johan would not be to impressed if he found out screeners were rejecting images for motiv due to being personally boring!!
I have been submitting shots here for quite sometime and have learned through rejections on how to fix an image if possible or just to burry it, move on and add it to my personal collection. However in this particular instance (and others in the past 3 months), it is the inconsistency in the NOA
-Motiv that is quite obvious here and a bit of a bother.

If you want to shoot parts of airplanes, you will be looking at motiv rejections from time to time.
When rejecting for Motiv and only Motive for these in-the-air motivated shots (when ground clutter is not an issue). It should be "accept all the time" or "reject all the time" (if wings, engines, tails, landing gears are cut off). Time to time shows a bit of an inconsistancy.. Don't you think??
As another screener has pointed out
|Quoting Lasham (Reply 15):|
Its the crop that kills the shot, if you had left the back of the engine in the shots and not cut them short the shot would have been more balanced.
So why not reject the Qantas one as well, because the engine is cut off as well?? Since we are dealing with the engine here... The Qantas was the last photo to get accepted on that particular date, so the screener should have rejected the qantas at the same time along with the SV
due to the engines being cut off... And why are there several shots showing UA
, A/C's in the same motive being accepted?? Some have all sorts of things cut off!! I am saying all this only based on Tony's response to the engine. I am not sure if he screened it or not, or if Royal did.. We can only speculate until if/when the screener or head screener who rejected the photos decides to comment. I could certainly re-crop the image and re-sub, but the 4 head screeners should use their judgement as to if the appeal makes sense and possibly write a few words back to the photographer as this is the only way to resolve a motive issue. Most any other issue is quite cut and dry.
I certainly do not want to drag this issue out, as I can choose to submit a different shot or re-edit and re-sub these ones, but I would like some of the head screeners to at least chime in as only those 4 special screeners can accept an appeal and they should do a bit of "research" with the screener who rejected it first and respond to the photographer accordingly based on what he/she has typed as the reason for the appeal.
For me it was a simple question... Why the Qantas and not the SV
when based on MOTIV and MOTIV only??
