20D LCD On The Frizz...

Sat Sep 16, 2006 12:52 am

Hey guys,

Any of you 20D owners had a problem with your LCD going out? This past weekend at Oceana mine started acting up. I went to review some shots and I was like...uh, where is my screen?! Well, it doesn't go completely out but it will flicker and stay quite dark, unreadable for short times. It came back the other day but now its doing it again. I am dreading calling Canon and hearing how much it will cost since, imagine this, my warranty ran out last month.  Sad I have searched the web for this only to find a couple threads that added no insight to it. My main concern is the price to replace it.

Thanks,
Danny

Danny,

I had the EXACT same problem last year while shooting at the Mirimar Air Show. Mine was more sudden...I was reviewing a shot on the LCD and then it went black...just died. My 20D was under warranty (only about two months old) and repaired within one week. Canon cited the reason for the LCD failure as "impact damage..." (??) I asked the service rep that helped me if this was a common issue with the LCD on the 20D but he gave me a very vague "no" answer. Good luck with yours, hope it's affordable to fix.

Do you really need a Liquid Crystal Display? Wouldn't it be just better to shoot like in the old film days?  stirthepot

Seriously, I have got that problem, once or twice, but it however fixes when I restart the camera.

Hope it won't grow into something worse in the future...
