Can You Believe This Email?

Mon Sep 18, 2006 3:48 am

From time to time most of us will receive an email or two, or three regarding our photos on this excellent site. So, a couple of weeks ago I opened one with anticipation, and after the original shock of reading it, thoroughly enjoyed sending my reply.
I had never met this individual, and unfortunately he has never replied to my email. Here is what I received

----------------------------

Hi ,
why do you always write "Now you're talking" in your comments? Is that
really necessary? For me this text is quite boring, contains 0 information
and is quite irrelavant to whatever photo you are adding it...
Furthermore I do not think that an excessive use of exclamation marks is
really necessary!!!!!!!
And I also think you have made a mistake as it seems that you have taken
photos in Alaska and Japan on April, 7th 2006. Quite unrealistic.
Now you're talking!

Regards
.......... (I have removed his name)

----------------------------------

As you will appreciate it wasn't the warmest email that I have ever received, and it puzzles me to why he actually bothered to type and send it. Anyway, below is my reply.

----------------------------------

Hi .......,

Thanks for your kind words. If you don't like my text, don't read it, it's
quite simple really.
Regarding Japan and Alaska on the same day, take a look at any map and you
will see something called the 'International Date Line'. You really should
get your facts right before criticizing others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and by the way, this is how you spell 'irrelevant', which is also the
word I would use to describe your email to me!

Regards,

Stuart

p.s. Perhaps I could view some of your photographs/text to compare to those
of my own?

----------------------------------

Has anyone else received this sort of email via an airliners.net link? It is the only one I have got.......so far anyway!!!

Regards,

Stuart

"Has the recent demolishing of old ATC tower made your photo a collectors item ?. You may wish to up date your night time photo caption taken back in June 06"

and another one, regarding my AA 757 shot that was turned into the fake WTC photo...NOT by me, i should say, unless anyone else wants to think so...

"that photo that you haved usedis very very FAKE i can tell u that
i can't not understand whij you use this picture that hit the twin towers i think
that the vitims off 9/11 not very happy with you, and me too.."

It is interesting that some people take the time to be relatively abusive.

Usually it is nice to receive emails - at least someone is looking at my pictures  wink .

The most amusing one I have had related to this photo:

In the comments section for the photo I made reference to the engines kicking up loads of spray from the runway surface (it had just been puring down with rain).

I cannot recall the exact words of the guy's email, but it went something like this:
"Paul - that is not spray, it is steam."
No other comment about the positives or negatives of the shot itself. I was so taken aback that for a couple of seconds he actually had me going!

It must be great to be so confident about things. I was too polite to reply.

Cheers.

I once received an e-mail from someone from somewhere (forgot the details) stating that I had a nice picture (F-18 frontal close-up), but that I really ruined it by putting the Airliners.net logo on it.

I explained the person politely the reasoning for the logo and if he wanted to see the shot without the logo, he could e-mail me and he could have a copy for personal use if he wanted to look at it without the logo. I never heard of him...

Best regards,

Walter

Thankfully I have not recieved any emails like that.

Stuart,

Your reply to that idiot was priceless!

Don't worry about it - out of the millions of people on the internet, there are bound to be a few that ran out of water in the gene pool...

I got emails saying stuff like:

- That is not your photo! You stole that photo you *&@$%*!!
- Could you give me the operating costs of a 747-300?
- We would like to lease a DC10, what can you offer?
- ...and many others I can't remember right now...

I've gotten those 'leasing' emails as well....pretty bizarre.

Most of us veterans on here will remember the "Katie" or "Kate?" emails. What ever happened to her?

Slightly off thread, I found this one, received a month or two ago quite amusing!

"You should have consideration for residents. You have circled over my garden for far too long! Do you think you have some right to plaster your engine noise over anywhere you want? You may feel that you are having fun or earning money, but I get no benefit, only distress. Perhaps when you have grown up and experienced some of the stress from life you may realise that many other people need peace and quiet!"

Apparantly he spotted the reg, looked it up on Airliners, and I got the flak!
I pointed him toward G-INFO and the possibilty of this nailing the guilty party and he was very apologetic.

Also received one recently from someone asking if I knew where he could a PUP having seen one of my images. Priceless!

Malcolm.
My interest lies in the future as I am going to spend the rest of my life there!

Quoting Cathay111 from another thread, long, long ago:
I present to you the funniest e-mail I've ever received - dead set this guy is off with the fairies in a major way!

"Craig,

It may be a grey United day . . . but they're happily headed to the Land that defines optimism, abundance, and the highest manifestation of the human spirit . . . sort of makes this place look a bit second hand huh?! USA RULES!

Every time I watch her take off (I cycle there 4 days of the week - used to be a FA with Pan Am) it draws my heart-strings - for what might be, for what we might one day achieve, for how they have it so sorted . . . I've lived there for 14 years - it really is true - don't condemn them, don't cringe - learn from them - BIG is possible . . . it's an American World . . . go with it!!!!

Kindest regards (not intending to be harsh)

I'm assuming he was American and was obviously not on his "anti-preaching" medication! Glad I've never met any Americans who carry on like this, they'd have probably had my 500mm lens whack them on the head if they did!!!!

I haven't since received anything that could top the above comments..... I'm not sure what weed this dude was putting in his pipe but it must have been a bad batch whatever it was!

This thread also had some very funny comments people had received....

Not quite in the same category as the above but I found this one amusing:

I noticed photographers, possibly you, or at least someone like you,
shooting from a taxiway at LAX on 9/16/06 as my AA flight took off from
25R. This brought back a question I have asked myself any number of
times since I began frequenting this site. How, particularly in this day
and age, do you go about getting the clearance to be out there?

Let's face it, with good equipment, and the right airport, you can get
some neat shots from off site, but there is no match for being on top
of the action. I've become hooked on this site and I'd love to know how
it is possible to get that close.

Thanks.

Mine is not all that funny and I don't have the email now, but a Guy from somewhere out there decided he'd send me a google map of the airport that a particular picture that I took was located!

It's not like I didn't know where it was situated on the earth's surface!!!!!!

The most unusual e-mail I got, though nothing lunatic, was from an Australian anthropologist who needed to travel to remote Lamalera Island in Indonesia. He badly wanted to know if Trans Nusa Air Services had started a certain planned service in the region, as that would save him three days of travel. He couldn't contact this little airline and figured, though he realized that I was only a photographer, that I might know something.

Coincidentally, I had got another e-mail a shortly before, from Trans Nusa's operations manager, who wrote to say he appreciated my photos of his aircraft. So at least I could help the guy contact the airline.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one.
There certainly are some strange people around, and I've met my fair share.
During the late eighties I met a guy on the terraces Gatwick, well actually I stood next to him for a while. He was a spotter, but instead of writing down the registration numbers etc, his note pad looked like this:

arrive depart
arrive depart
arrive depart
arrive depart
arrive depart

Its not as if he was preparing something in advance, but each time an aircraft landed he would write 'arrive', and when something took off, he would write 'depart'. I moved a few steps to the right, and tried to look busy!!
