What's Wrong?

Sat Sep 30, 2006 2:02 am

Normally I can see why a picture got rejected but with this one http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...ig/20060929_n198aaTNCM270606z3.jpg I just don't see what the problem is. Got rejected a few weeks ago for oversharpened only; I then reduced the sharpening this time only a little bit and now it gets rejected for quality and soft.
I might just be too stubborn in wanting to believe that the shot is good enough but what worries me most is that it got rejected both times at the 1st screening pass so it's gotta be something noticeable but I just can't (or don't want to) see it; anyway I'd like to hear from you what you think about it?
Please keep the hints concrete!
Hints for improvement are also very much welcome!

Hi Thierry..

When you get a photo rejected so many times and because of a variety of reasons for me is enough to think it worth a retry..
Time for another photo and keep this in your collection..

Cheers

Well, it's a nice picture, maybe the screeners were just having some bad ways. I like the way the green is reflected on the bottom of the aircraft though. Good work!

I've found personally that AA 757s for some reason, are difficult to avoid a quality rejection with...Maybe its just me, but I personally like that picture...
Scotty doesn't know...

I believe the reflection by the 'American' titles may be the reason for a quality rejection and on my monitor it does appear slightly soft.

I think the problem is you don't have a unique filename!  Wow!  Wink

Very perceptive Jason!

Anyways, the shot is a bit backlit for my taste.

Nice photo with good color cast and composition, but there seem to be a few problems as well. From my perspective, there are areas which seem a bit soft, especially around the top of the fuselage. At least on my monitor, there appear to be a lot of jaggies around the windows and landing gear, the American title on the front of the fuselage is soft, and the flag on the top of the tail has some issues. This is probably what lead to multiple rejections.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Is there a fair amount of grain on the tail or is that just me?

Now don't get me wrong I'm liking this shot but...

It's jaggered as hell. Look at the cheat lines, the logo on the tail, the engine mounts, horizontal stabiliser, etc. The aircraft is just too over-processed on this one.

Well if it was so jaggy why not give it a jagged rejection!? And I really don't think I overprocessed the shot, only standard stuff eliminating dust spots, adding some saturation, a little contrast, resizing and a slight pass of sharpening.
Btw: the AA tail logo is jagged on most of the shots in the db; somehow you just can't get them right if shot at a particular angle.

Did you bother hitting the zoom button? after i zoomed in to normal size i couldnnt find any of the jaggeds your on about.
I do think the reflection is the thing killing the shot though.
