Dubble Rejection Query

Fri Oct 06, 2006 7:06 am

Hiya,

Submitted a photo, which was rejected with reason "quality soft":

http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...me=20061005_N176UA_011006-1200.jpg

So i added some sharpening with photoshop and got another rejection but this time plain "quality" and no further info given:

http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...e=20061005_N176UA_011006-1200b.jpg

This gets me a bit confused. First it was to soft, so i sharpened it and got quality again.....

I won't submit this one again, but would like tips on this....  Wink

Is it an idea to reduce size, like this one on MyAviation.net ?

Chris

In this case sharpening may have solved the softness issue but it made the quality worse than before by adding more grain etc.

Quality just isn't there with this shot.

The shot might be better at 1024 wide vs. 1200. Also, when you added sharpening did you do a completely new edit, or add over the old saved file? The sky looks grainy as well, if you sharpened that, you shouldn't have.

As Matt mentioned 1024 may be better here but at its current size, its not got what it takes currently.

I sharpened the photo, so the sky is sharpened also. I can't sharpen the aircraft and leave the sky 'soft'.....

Thanks for the replies, Chris.

Do a fresh edit. With the plane at center, crop photo on PS to 4 x 6. Resize to 1024. Use magic wand and deselect sky by right clicking on inverse. Select USM at 50, 0.4, 0. Select duplicate layer, repeat USM at the same ratio. Use eraser tool at 100% opacity and remove any jaggies. Flatten image and voila!

of course you can.....why in the world would anyone sharpen the entire photo?

Read up on layer masks, using the eraser tool as mentioned above isn't reversable, and is far more time consuming.
