Opinions On This Shot...

Thu Oct 12, 2006 1:27 pm

Hey all,

This is the first shot that I seriously think might be good enough to touch the database, at least after some revisions. I'm actually more concerned with the quality (the lighting isn't the best); is the quality, sharpness etc... good enough to get uploaded?

The image you're showing is too small to judge. Upload a bigger version, at least 1000 pixels wide.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this picture won't make it in. And, unfortunately, you can't fix it.

The gear being blocked is a definite motive rejection. The lighting isn't bad, you just need to play around with the levels, saturation, and contrast a little bit more. There is a little bit of glare on the fuselage that can be gotten rid of using the Shadow/Highlight tool, but, again, this shot is unfortunately unsalvageable. Which is a shame because the E-190 really is a beautiful aircraft.

Also, as Fly747 said, for future reference, upload full-size images of at least 1000 pixels, as this is the minimum for A.net.

Well, I have a question, which online photo hosting websites will let you upload pictures larger than 800 x 600? The photo itself is 3072 x 2304.

TIS, I really appreciate the comments, they're helpful. As far as just overall quality of the picture, does it have a.net standards (I'm really more asking about the camera)?

The other picture I have that might be a little better (the gears aren't blocked) is this one. It may get a motive rejection for the not total centeredness, but how is this one compared to the last one? Once again, it's 800 x 600, until I can figure out how to upload larger pictures.

Cameron.

The second picture is better motive-wise. The best way to post a large image is to re-size it to about 1200 pixels, turn down the quality a little bit so that the file is LESS than 1MB, and then upload it to your airliners.net user profile. Then just provide a link to the picture.

If you send me the second image in full-size I'll be glad to give it a go. Send me an e-mail through my profile, and I'lll respond so that you can send me the image, as I don't want to give out my address.

I don't know anything about sony cameras but you might want to adjust your settings a bit. The first was shot at F/4.5, 1/1000ss, ISO 125, and the second at F/4 aperture.
You might try to increase your F-stop and decrease your shutter speed and ISO. From what I have been reading here (and experiencing myself) f/8-f/11 and 400-640ss should work better for the heavies.

I think centering is not the biggest problem with the 2nd pic, but it could use a little bit of space after the back fin. Being backlit is probably a bigger problem.

Hi Cameron,

I'd say it looks rather dark.
