Your Opinion On This Sunrise Picture

Fri Oct 27, 2006 11:43 pm

Hi Everybody,

Again I am asking for your help in judging this picture. Original is brighter, but I darkened it down to this edit. I also cropped it further away to show some sky behind the mountains.

So, what do you think? Possible motiv rejection? Or distance? Or too dark?
All your comments are most welcomed - thanks!

Excellent shot! However I don't think it would be good enough for the database. I'm no screener or expert at all but I can see a lot of jaggedness around the tail, nose, underside of engines and also those street lights.

Good luck though!

Hi there!

Possible? Yes of course. Valid? In terms of anet guidelines maybe. Beautiful? Without any doubt!

I can't comment on quality as I'm on a weird laptop at the moment, but speaking about the motive, it would be a high hitter.

If possible in terms of file quality, crop out the clutter on the bottom, ruins the peaceful atmosphere for me.

Certainly a wonderful position you have there, and in case Anet doesnt give you the acceptance (may it be center distance or motiv), don't worry; it's not the case that judgement starts and ends at this site  Wink

I don't think so. Give it a try. Artistic shots sometimes are accepted to the database--this is one.

If you are going to try it, crop it so the ground clutter is gone. Crop it with the plane and the mountain. And clone out the light poles.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks to all for your feedback! I have to say I am somewhat surprised about the many (mostly positive) replies on my request (also by email) - it looks like the picture has some potential  Cool

Rob, did you click at the image once opened in the new window, because first it opens a reduced size one, and only after you click on it it opens the full size one? I am asking because I cannot see the jaggies you are pointing at.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Now, taking into account Jeffs comments, I tried a second edit, which at least address the distance (sure as dark as the first one, and same motiv  Smile ). Now, these are the two edits side by side.

Any comments?

The first crop still looks better.

I believe that's not acceptable for A.net.

Andres,
I really think it is a great photo accepted or not. However those light poles are really disturbing. And I think there is not much you can do about them. Except go out again and try to catch the plane without the poles.
Which I am sure you will .  Wink
Hope you can take me to that spot next time I fly to SCEL.
Cheers

Sorry, I do apologise. I was pretty sure I'd opened it full screen actually, hence my comments but after double checking you are indeed correct. Please accept my apologies and I'll wind my neck in and return to my corner now!

Valiant effort, but I still doubt it. Those light poles are a major distraction, and it just doesn't do anything for me. It's a dark, far away picture.

Very nice shot. I like the first crop better, though. Tend to agree about the poles - they are a bit distractive. Good luck with the screening, if you go for it  Smile !

Would be rejected for distance, I believe.
