Photography Info For Airports With Google Maps

Tue Oct 31, 2006 4:18 am

Hi all!
I invested a little bit of time and did a spotting information with google maps. Of course its for Vienna. If you are interested take a look at
www.vap-group.at --> Vienna information,
or directly to the zoom- and clickable google map.
http://yakfreak.aviation.at/vap/maps/vie_map_info.htm
Hope you like it.

Looks very promising, but in Firefox 2.0 clicking on the car signs does give you a text baloon, but the text isn't cut so it fits. Clicking on the spots itself doesn't do anything. Is that the idea or a mistake?

You mean the text is to big for the baloon?

Yes that's correct there happens nothing (for the moment).

Thanks for the feedback.

When you type a text in word, or a reply here, the text continues on the next line if you keep typing. That doesn't happen in the baloons, it just keeps running on one line across the screen.

Would be nice to have some photo's from that location, but not sure how to implement this.

I can see this concept used for other airports as well.

Edit: Check the links to the photo's on the information page. A couple of errors there. And there is a reference to "spot 7" in there as well, wich does not exist anymore  Wink.

This would be cool thing if we could create a database. How did you go about doing it? I would like to do one for my home airport. Not that anyone would want to come here for the plethora of CRJs, ERJs, and WN 735s. Big grin

Maybe this could somehow be integrated into that Spotters Wiki?

Now the spots are all clickable also and a link will show up which brings you to example photos taken from the spot.

Don't ask. This was my first Java script experience. So the code is for sure not very effective.
I would estimate it took me about 60 hours or so to get it working
