New Nikon D40?

Sun Nov 05, 2006 1:12 am

A German retailer website neckermann.de had pictures and specifications on a new Nikon D40 digital SLR camera before they took it down. Could this be real? Looks to be direct competition to the Canon 400D in size and will replace the D50 although it's still only 6.1Mp.

6.1 Megapixels
Compressed 12-bit NEF, JPEG
3 autofocus points
2.5 (230,000 pixel) LCD with up to 19x magnification
ISO 200 - 1600, HI1
3 metering modes (420-pixel meter): 3D Color Matrix Metering II, Center-weighted metering (75% of center field), 8mm spot

Well, what can you say? The good old 6,1 Mpix sensor is still doing great  Wink

It's not a 400D competitor, the D80 is.

I'd say it's a low-cost version of a D50. Even simpler features - just for phtography, isn't it what it;s all about ?

...if it will come out...
