Hi And 'Does This Picture Can Be Improved?'

Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:59 pm

Hi all and let me introduce myself briefly - I'm Fyodor Borisov. If you like photos from Russia you might have seen my collection: http://www.airliners.net/search/phot...hotographersearch=Fyodor%20Borisov

So, I'm about 3,5 years at A.Net but first day only at the forum. Indeed read before but never wrote. So, just decided to use my postcard account for membership.

Well, hope for nice talks and new friends  Wink

Note! Sorry for my English - some times it can be awful. Do not lash me too much.  Wink

And the practical question indeed.

This photo was rejected by the quality reason. Realy interesting shot - I'd happy to improve it if possible, but I'd like to ask colleagues to help me with advises (even like 'no chance mate, because...') - how you think it is possible to make it better and what is wrong and bad at your opinion.

Thats the shot:

Welcome to the forums -

Your image is indeed interesting and depending on the size/format you have the original you may just be able to get it up to database standards. The main problem with your shot is when you try and brighten the dark areas, you enhance the noise which is there. Also you will need to crop and resize to a 3:2 or 4:3 ratio.

I have quickly brightened your image to give you an idea of what I am talking about

Hi Jid, thanks for reply.

First - its 1000x743 - so it is in frames of 3:2 and 4:3.

Second - am I correct you mean - too much noise after brightening? In reality it was more dark. If to leave it as it was - you think it willbe better?

BTW - it is Il-114 landing at LED if anybody interested  Smile

Here is my edit, but I can see that my edit would not make it into the database.

I think minimal lighting is necessary. The photo was not taken in sunlight, so there is no reason to make it seem that way. Lighten it too much and you get too much grain.

Unfortunatly, quality can include dark and motive, two possible rejection reasons in my view. You can only correct dark.

my attempt:

Big version: Width: 1000 Height: 743 File size: 249kb

Sorry but I think its going to go for quality again. Jid's is by far the better edit in my book but as mentioned suffers from grain now. I don't know what it would be like running it through a noise filter but it may work. It could be worth a try.

Hi Peter,
thanks and I enjoy your great photos as well!

rufruf, digital, Canon 350D, Canon 17-40, 1/8 7.1 ISO800, 19.30 at 60th paralel (LED) GMT +3. I didn't get the last question...

UnattendedBag, rejection DARK for night photo looks a bit jesuitical  Wink. What's wrong with the motive? It is question of composition where rwy is important part and needs to be at the center.

And what is motive at all, btw?....  Wink
