Canon 30D: More Noise Than Usual At Dark Blue Sky?

Sat Nov 11, 2006 7:01 am

Hi !

when I had the 30D for some weeks I noticed much more noise (ISO 200) at a perfect blue sky, than the 350D and the 400D.
Is there anybody who made the same conclusion ?

Nope, I find that it produces less noise than the two latter cameras.

The opposite to me. I shoot with ISO's up to and sometimes over 800 and have no problems what so ever.

My first 30D had unacceptable noise even at low ISO settings. The 2nd one has been just awesome.

Hi all,

High loise levels in my 30D which I am not happy about, sadly Canon wouldn't do anything as they said it fell within acceptable noise levels.

I had quite a bit of noise on my 300D at 200 iso the other day and I was shooting against a bright blue sky and then into the sunset, so I was kinda confused as well.

My 300D had less noise at ISO 400 than my first 30D did at ISO 200. Like I said, my second copy is working out great.

None of the firmware updates which Canon have released have addressed the problem of high ISO noise.

...do you think the 30D really has a high noise problem ? I never heard user in special forums talking about high noise when using a 30D. My 30D I used to have, had some noise at dark blue sky...I´m not really sure, but I think my former 350D hadn´t...Maybe my 30D was not OK....like the 400D I just gave back yesterday: It produced very soft pictures without any details...reason unknown.

I also feel as if my 30D has high noise...have for some time..aside from that I get a lot of overexposure.

I´m anxious to see how many users will come to the same conclusion, that the 30D is a noisy cam.....

The reason being.....there isn't a problem, thus nothing to fix.

Ben,

Im really surprised the place you bought it from didn't take the camera back for exchange. I had mine for about a month, made a call and told them I wasn't happy with the high noise levels (They knew about the issues on some of the cameras) and exchanged it, no questions asked. It was 2 weeks after the return period expired.

You're right Jeff, I am imagining it.

Yes I am surprised too, problem was they immediately shifted the problem to Canon who, surprise surprise said there wasn't a problem (like I expected anything else from them)

Ben

Hmm, was I supposed to know that or something?

Like I said, my new copy has been great, much better than the first one which had issues with grain even at lower ISO settings. Thats about all I can say on the subject.
