1050? You mean 1950?

The quality is not good, and it seems that they've been JPG compressed a lot!

Who took them? If you don't know, I highly doubt you'll get them into the DB.

However motiv, I think the first one doesn't show enough of an aircraft, it looks like a whale, upside-down.

Nothing to do about that on these old pics.

I asked my grandmother but she didn't know so I can only guess it was someone in my family.

I thought it would be an interesting picture because this is of a famous air crash where "Geysir" crashed.

Please mail the editors and screeners about this. We'd be happy to have these in our db but the copyright issues needs to be cleared up.

The rules go out the window when old images such as these are involved and rightly so. You can't apply the same standard for pictures shot half a century ago...
They will make an excellent addition to the db.

Oh yes I can!

If those are slides that Þórður has, he can make better scans and no compression, so they will be better. I know there are lower standards for older photos, but at least the picture nr. 2 is noticably compressed. Easy to fix, if you have the orginal scan.

Yes you can guess, but don't you have to confirm?

just out of curiosity, and it may help Flug, how would you personally go about finding out the identity of a photographer from 56 years ago?

I would ask my grandmother if she knows anyone that could know that and if that doesn't work I'll go to a museum and ask somebody there if they know who took these pictures and if that doesn't work ill post some messages on the internet and if that doesn't work I'll keep them to my self!  Wink

Flugnord

The quality of both items acceptable to the database.

I just love the first image. Quality is fantastic. Does anyone know a little more about it? Was this an expedition to the crash site or the recovery of bodies?

Regards

That's no compression in that shot David, just the result of scanning a very old print.

Alright! Don't you think they could be a little better scanned? I know they're acceptable, but still it would probably be better to get even higher quality out of the shots.

Oh really, is 1024 pixels wide a high resolution?

Hmm, you maybe resized them, but how were the originals?

David, no offense but I think you are out of your element here. Images from the 1950 just aren't the same as prints scanned from 2000.

Tim, I'm not out of my element; I just wonder if one can make those shots better than they are now. If they're acceptable as they are, that's fine for me, but nevertheless, I'll just stop commenting in this thread because I'm "out of my element".  sarcastic

I've also got an idea that shots from 1950 aren't as good as slides from 2000.

Seriously, take a hint man... Nobody agrees with you, a lot of people are even saying that the quality is acceptable for the database.
