Which One Is Centered?

Sat Nov 25, 2006 4:12 am

Hi !

I often ask myself what perfectly centered means....

is this centered, where the row of windows is exactly in the middle of the frame or....

...is this centered, where the top part of the plane has the same distance from the frame as the lowest part:

Thanks for your help.

Somewhere in the middle, but closer to version #1.

The tailfin is part of the aircraft, and should not be ignored. But it has limited 'weight' in the picture because of its small area. If the tailfin extended forward to the nose, making the aircraft shape a square, #2 would be OK.

In this case, yes, the first one looks good. That's because it's nice to show a bit of the ground. If it was all sky it would be slightly high in the frame for me. Certainly, centering the fuselage/window line doesn't always work.

Id say the 1st is more centered then the 2nd. interesting shot since you can see part of the old titles behind the new ones.

Just looking at the thumbnail the second looks too low.
