Photograph Sale Help

Fri Dec 08, 2006 6:37 pm

Dear all

How much would you charge for unlimited use rights for an indefinite period on a non-exclusive basis?

Thanks,
Charles

Depends on how unique your pic is actually...could the buyer just get around the corner here and get a very similar one from sbdy else?

The flipside of course is: what is the repeat sale potential of the image? Even though you said non-exclusive, many publications don't want images that have already been published elsewhere - everyone wants to be the first (well not everyone, but previous publication could lower the potential sale price in the future).

Well the prospective buyer has a specialist interest in the photos in question so I don't expect a crowd of other people to come beating a path to my door asking to use the same photos. My interest in retaining rights to the shots is more so I can use them in any future projects of my own.

Anyone willing to give me a ballpark figure?

Its always question of the market. For what purpose do the want to use it? For aviation magazine, daily business newspaper, design bureau or photobank - price are different. It various from 12 USD (lowest I was asked) to few hundreds depending how rare your photo is.

If to know situation more clear - it will be easy to give concrete advise.

Anyway - try to negotiate with people. Might be they'll propose you their own price.
