No Pilots Waving Here

Tue Dec 19, 2006 11:27 am

With all of the so-called bickering going on in recent threads, I thought I would try to liven things up here. I know that there is no real chance that these would make the A.net DB (something about upclose shots of military pilots not being motive), but thought I would post them for everyone to see and comment on.

These were taken today (18 Dec 2006) when 2/F-18Cs from VFA-34 "Blue Blasters" landed at Grand Junction - Walker Field, CO to accomplish a 'hot refuel' before moving on to their next destination. The military portion of the FBO here is nice enough to provide free pizza and sodas to all military pilots/crew that stop for fuel. Now since they were accomplishing a 'hot refuel', the pilots were unable to get out of their jets. So....pizza and soda was delivered to them instead.

Pizza to go!

Damn that soda tastes good?

Hope that you all enjoy.

I'd be pretty sure that if they were uploaded and by chance accepted, they'd be popular! Nice pics!

It seems to me a pair of stills from "Hot shots" film. I can't imagine a fighter cockpit full of pizza crumbs during a mission, or the face of the deliver boy (Who ordered a pizza?).
On the other hand, I agree with mentioned here. If a wingtip with a bee swarm motive was right for A.net, this pic is a hit for sure!

Congrats.

?? Why not? We used to do it all the time. Just shut down #1, exit the jet, leave #2 running while fueling, do what you gotta do, get back in, re-start #1.

Jeff,

I wonder if they shut down one anyway. I can't see how someone could pass those items to the pilot anyway, without passing inside the safety zone of the intake.

Wonderful shots either way!

Both of the jets shut down the right engine since that was the side the fuel truck was on. It was planned that they would only be on the ground for no more than 15 minutes. The guy that runs the military division of the FBO walked right up to the plane and handed the pilots the goods. Plus he had to take and give back their credit cards for the fuel. I was also walking around within 20 feet of the jets taking pictures while all of this was going on.

For all of those who have liked the photos so far....I submitted them for acceptance/rejection this morning. It can be a long week of waiting, but we will have to see what happens.

Who's paying for these pizzas? #! The USAF or the tax payer? Same difference I guess.

What difference does it make to you? I'd gladly pay for their pizzas....as would many others here.

The USAF would be upset to pay for the pizza and soda since the aircraft pictured are USN F-18Cs.

Dont worry...the pizzas and soda were not paid for by US Taxpayers. The pizzas and sodas are provided free of charge by the FBO on the airfield.

Utter crap.. just goes to show you theres no humor in aviation photography anymore, one of the reasons alot of people aint uploading anymore.

Personally i think your shots are awesome but it just goes to show..

Check out the carry-on behind the pilot in the first pic....I guess it didn't fit into the overhead compartment.
