Photography At Hamburg, Germany

Mon Dec 25, 2006 7:40 pm

I'll be visiting Hamburg for couple days for New Years and wondering if anyone can provide me tips on photography around the perimeter. A map would be nice if anyone could provide one. I'm visiting another local who lives there, but hasn't been there in awhile. Shots like this is what I'm interested in:

Hi there,

the first two pictures were taken at the runway 15 spot, you'll need a three step ladder there for these kind of pics... For Stuff like A300 or above you'll need a lens under 70 mm on digital.

The last picture is taken from one of the observation decks at the terminal. But be aware that the decks are most of the time closed when it gets freezing.

Here you can get an idea of the HAM spotting locations.

Also very good is the runway 23 approach, sorry for the plug.

Runway 33 departure is also very nice, but difficult in winter due to the sun.

Line up shots on runway 23 are also possible from the observation decks.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask or contact me.

If you wish (and it fits in my shedule) I can show you arround.

Cheers from HAM

Hi Tobias,

I was just looking at your shots from Hamburg. Simply amazing. I do want to catch the Aeroflot TU154, EK 773, Iran Air 747, and of course, Continental 757-200.   Thanks for the link!

That'd be great!!! I'm in the area from Dec. 30 to Jan 4.

Hi Kevin,

unfortunately Iran Air usually operates with Airbus A300 into HAM (the Boeing 747 only show up during holiday season) and Aeroflot has switched to Airbus A319, so you most likely won't get these two.

Additionally, due to a new fence at runway 05 no more taxiing shots are possible there.

Have fun in HAM, perhaps you are lucky and catch one or the other unexpected visitor at Lufthansa Technik.

Bummer! Oh well, who knows maybe will get lucky since it's the New Years holiday.

Great website, Frank, by the way!

one of the best guides you can find. Had it with me and was great. A car can be very helpful too.
