Comments On Gulfstream Nightshot

Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:25 pm

Hello all,

I decided to try some night shots of a Gulfstream 4 that was parked in front of the Grand Junction Control Tower this evening. Please provide your comments on what is good or bad about the shot. I would like to try and get it into the database since there are no photos of this aircraft in the DB.

Gulfstream 4 (Nikon D70, FL=40mm, 20 sec exposure at F/6.3, ISO 200)

You should take a crack at fixing the color cast. I know the lights were yellow, but this site I think has maintained that it wants color correct shots, even under yellow lighting.

Here's my crack at it:

It's a pretty challenging edit, I have to say. Maybe someone else could do better with it.

Louis.

I agree with the others that you have a significant colour cast there. You will need to sort that out. Also, the sharpening needs a bit of work, as there are those jaggies on the stripes at the back, and the front end looks in need of a little more sharpening. For me the aircraft overall would also need to be somewhat lighter for it to have a chance - but it is hard to tell what is possible without seeing the original.

If you think I can help in any way with the edit feel free to get in touch.

All the best.

I actually like the yellow cast however as the others state on this site "I think it will get rejected for white balance reasons. The winglet and the rear section as well as the reg look over cooked and the side and front section look a little soft.
Most people do not even attempt night shots and there are some differences to shooting in the day but pratice makes perfect.
Take the advice given by the above and next time you will have an even better shot.
Good luck,

Stuart
