Picture Size Queery

Tue Jan 09, 2007 1:48 am

Hey all,
I am a recent member of A.net and would like some help on getting pics uploaded.I have tried a few but have been told that the file size is too big.I have a Nikon D50 and the sizes available to me to shoot with are as follows.................large(3008x2000)medium(2256x1496) and small(1504x1000)
Should I be shooting with the smallest size?
Also,I have the camera set to take JPEG NORMAL,should I move up to FINE or down to Basic or am I ok with normal?
Thanks everyone and happy shots

EINA330,

Welcome. First of all you should shot with the biggest size available in-camera. Then once you are processing your photos using something like Adobe Photoshop etc, you should resize your photos for uploading to here after editing. The guidelines for that can be found on the uploads page.

For best results, resize to 1024x at 3:2 aspect ratio at the best jpeg quality. Usually 12 on Photoshop Elements.

Hope this helps

Regards
Colin

Hey EINA330,

I too have the D50 and suggest that you do some research and practicing with settings, however; use the biggest size and use .RAW (.NEF fileformat) and convert whilst in photoshop to .jpg.

Editing is required for airliners.net and so you will need to resize down to such sizes as 1024, however I personally use 1200 (For examples of my photography, click my username for a link) but when getting used to editing/photo taking, use 1024.

If you're that new to Photoshop I suggest that you look at the Photoshop books by Scott Kelby or Martin Evening. Scott makes them for each version of PS (including Elements) and Martin's book is excellent if you're using CS2. Go to Amazon and search "photoshop for photographers" (as all these words are in titles by both authors) and you'll see a good spectrum of books.
