Photoshop And Processing RAW Formats

Sun Jan 28, 2007 4:16 pm

Hi All,

I require a bit of information if possible. I am interested in using a bit more RAW format captures as I feel it will probably allow me to work more with my photos in the post image editing phase. The way I understand RAW is that it allows you to greater control exposure as well as other effects on the image. Is this correct?

Well anyhow, what I am after is a good method (using photoshop) to process RAW format images. Obviously the process will be dependant on the quality of the original shot. I have read Fergul's document regarding JPEG processing with photoshop which is wonderful and if there is something similar which exists with respect to RAW format I would much appreciate being directed to it.

I would also like to hear some discussion as to the relative benefits and drawbacks on shooting in RAW and JPEG's.

Thanks in advance...

Carl

I find the free trial of Rawshooter Essentials to be better than the Canon Raw converter or that in Photoshop CS
You can download it for free at http://www.pixmantec.com/
They have been bought out by Adobe so that will direct you to the Adobe site.
There is a help file though it is pretty intuitive in use.
For best results you should always try to get your exposure right but there is a wider margin for error using RAW.
