Best Time Of Year To Visit ORD & SFO?

Mon Feb 05, 2007 2:40 am

I'm hoping to shoot at these and the surrounding airports this year, but these 2 will be my main focus. What time of year will bring the best sunlight for these airports?  camera

At SFO, it really varies day by day. You may get sun, or you may get clouds. It's hard to tell whether it will be good far ahead of time. Hopefully someone else can help you with sun and stuff.

727LOVER!
You picked two great cities and two great airports.
Chicago is my hometown, San Francisco is where I live.
As Flamedude707 mentioned, it can vary by the day. In fact, it can vary by the hour. Chicago is good anytime of the year as long as there is no storm. If you don't mind standing out in the cold, you can get sunshine on a cold winter day. The summer evenings can be good for taking pictures. The summer months seem to be hazy sun often.
The fall is when you get those crisp clear blue skies. It's the best time to get photos of the Chicago skyline as well.
Take Lake Shore Drive and exit at Burnham Park (approx. 5500 south) and try to get a sunrise shot over Lake Michigan. The sun gradually paints the buildings downtown.
It's a spectacular site to see.

Here is San Francisco, there are plenty of photo opportunities.

Chicago, I was thinking early April or late May (Memorial Day weekend)

San Fran- July 4th weekend.

Or I could get fired and have to cancel both. Big grin

forget it....heat haze and the fact that the 28's are quite far and the most frequent in use make it a hard airport to shoot. You can go to Millbrae but at that time of the year you're better off drinking down at pier 39.

Haha, I have about given up on SFO. Employee parking passes will still get you run off too. I second Pier 39.

Pier 39?
That is a tourist hell-hole!
The San Francisco Brewing Company in North Beach or The Toronado on Haight street is much better.
Take it from me, I am a local.  Smile

What kind of lense do you have?
You can get incredible shots in July early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Hit me up if you make it out here to San Francisco.
