Sharp Or Soft

Mon Feb 05, 2007 8:45 pm

First of thanks to all who have helped me in previous threads, my acceptance ratio is finally moving in the right direction.

I had 5 shots in the queue screened yesterday. The first 3 were screened and rejected for soft then the last 2 were accepted.

Rejected

Accepted

This is no way a knock at the screeners or because I have had rejections.

On my Monitor I can’t see the difference. All shots were sharpened in the same way. Is this how fine the line is now or is it because they were screened by difference screeners and therefore different monitors?

The first shot is slightly oversharpened.

Turkish one could use abit of USM all over it to boost but that American one that looks very soft/blurry especially nose area on the monitor im looking at them on,I would of thought Turkish one looks better shot but maybe its the monitor (CRT).
Turkish one i think would of had better chance than AA 777 but screeners think otherwise.

No! The Turkish shot has some jaggies, small ones, specially in the flap sections, nose gear doors, 'Turkish' titles and engine intakes.
The aft section of the aircraft looks pretty flat to me. It gives an odd feeling to the image. It must be due to the direction of the light provided by the sun.
Hope it helps.

Cheers!

Steve,

Have a close look at the windows along the fuselage on the first shot. You'll see the quality isn't there, blurry to my eyes.

If the shot is blurry then fair enough, but that’s the sharpest shot I took all day. I’ve either got focus problems or I’ve leant noting it the last 4 years!  Confused

The point I was trying to get at in the first post was is the line between soft and sharp so fine that depending on what monitor its screened on has a effect whether its accepted or not?

Steve,

Both look great to me, and as for the jaggies well on my monitor i can see them all over but saying that, i did have to get my nose on the screen and i saw every pixel there, so i do agree with you on this one.
Think it may well depend on the monitor viewing the pic at the time, but there again i'm no expert. BTW nice post processing on the Turkish photo, what program did you use ?  Smile

Tough call Steve..

I agree. In my eyes the TK looks better than the accepted AA shot.

Photoshop elements 2

I’m not sure what to do with it now? It looks over sharp to most but rejected for soft. Do I give it a bit more USM or erase the jaggies?
