Can I Save One Of These?

Mon Feb 19, 2007 12:56 pm

Hey guys,

I took these sometime ago over the CA desert (click on them for larger version)

I love the B757 winglet and desert below as the plane was turning. Unfortunately, I only had my compact camera with me that day and I don't think the quality is great. Do you think I can save any of them?

Thanks for any help / opinions.

Tony

PS I only did minimal editing on them: scaling, a bit of contrast, and a bit of sharpening.

I think the first one is great, despite the fact that you were shooting with a p&s camera. It looks nice with the winglet in the center of the shot. You'll have to get advice from someone else quality-wise.

I personally like the photos but think sky looks abit weird....

Motive may be problem though.

The ONLY reason I don't think these two will make it is the haze/motive. If this had been a clear view to the surface and the surface was sharp it would be a 'serviceable' shot. Great shot, but the conditions were not good enough.

Do you think I can maybe fix that with some selective sharpening?

I doesn't matter. The only difference between certain point and shoot cameras and the more expensive DSLRs is that with the latter you can use big lenses and you have a better control on certain parameters. Point and shoot acmeras have certain advantages : small, compact (I usually bring one with my during flights) and usually (beginning from the 6 megapixel and going up) shoot almost "ready to upload" shots, if you use them correctly.
Anyway : I like the first one and I''d have atry with that one. Haze is a problem there, but I would give it a chance anyway. Best luck.

1st one might be ok with some extra sharpning on the wing. The second probably won't due to motive.
