Not a big fan myself, but I guess for people who are going to be travelling on an airline it's interesting to see what you're going to get.

people might be bored from teh standard SXM Jumbo over the beach. I would say it's just the interest in the Cabin or even the pax which might be in there. You won't see much uncommon things at an A-340 infornt of blue sky.

Nothing's wrong with them, they just don't really do much for me. To me, it's like taking a picture of my bedroom or my office - not very dynamic.

I do understand others disagree, clearly because the number of hits they're getting. They're now a large portion of the top photos. I'm just curious why people like them so much. As in, what's the appeal, and what am I missing?

They don't do anything for me either unless it's a really unusual configuration. But to each their own.  crowded

I've used them a lot for the "what I am going to get" question. It's also interesting to see how different airlines make very different use of the same space. To me, it's really no different than the interest in different or unusual livery.

or maybe we get to see what $5000 will get you on a transatlantic flight. While the rest of us, the poor and downtrodden, get 3-5-3 cattle seating.

Well,
some of them are really nice to look at (see Misha Popov recent one). Personally I like the ones where the photographer adds something special and unusual : some wierd angle, a particular close-up or something...Usually these shots are taken only by pilots during flight, so obviously there must be something special in them, something that we poor souls do not see...

Personally I get bored of them very, very soon : seen one, seen them all (apart from someone who has enough creativity to shoot something from a different angle)

I'm not talking about cockpit shots. I'm talking about pictures of airplane seats.

I see, sorry for the misunderstanding : actually I think it's fun to have a look at the interior of the aicraft which you will fly on. Some parts of the cabin then are just an "authorized personell only" : as someone said before it's fun to take a loof at a 5000$ seat layout...

To be honest as an aviation photo i cant stand them....

BUT i use them when picking a flight to travel on.... It a lot easier to do a quick search on A.Net to see whats looks
nicer. For example im off to MCO this year so wanted to see what looked better. US 330 , DL 777 , DL 767 , AA 777 , UA 777 or BA 777. Just from a couple of photos you can see the cabin layout. Type of seats. And more important do the seats have TV's in the back. Rather than the pathetic 1 screen for 20 people jobs !!!!

I really like those types of photos! Come in handy when choosing seats on flights! Big grin

So, all those hits that force shots of the coach cabin to the front page are people looking to see what a coach seat on Lufthansa looks like?

(It looks the same as it does on other airlines.)

I'm not going to press this further because I don't want to annoy the photographers that have these shots, but I simply don't get it.

It has to do with being a TRUE aviation/airline enthusiast and this is part of it. If you don't get it then you probably are not really a die hard airliner fan. It reminds me of that saying "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand". I think the cabin shots are great and its neat to see different airlines that I have not flown on.

Quoting D L X (Reply 13):

Not true at all. There is a big difference between seats on airlines. So you are telling me a coach seat on United looks the same as a coach seat on Emirates? Not even close to each other. I have been on both. In fact, that statement reminds me of a person who I know who said "why do you take pictures of airliners, they are all the same just different paint on the outside". He was an airline pilot too, sad.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion though. I do think people have absolutely overkilled the SXM, St. Maarten shots. I am just about as numb as a pounded thumb from these.

I think it also has to do with the fact that many people don't have the chance to fly often, or at all in many cases, so they can get a sense of how it is with the pictures. And in the case of First class cabin shots, I think its a matter of looking at what everyone would like to have but few can get. basically it's like looking at pictures of mansions and envy the rich life  Wink

I'm pretty sure I qualify as a die hard airliner fan, even though I think cabins are boring. I don't see coach cabins as being inherently aviation-related. It's like saying because I'm not a fan of the screwdrivers that are used to screw screws on a wing, that I'm not a real airliner fan.

Ah, so that explains it.

I like aircraft (even airliners), but cabin shots are pointless as far as I am concerned.
