Best Photographs For Desktop Backgrounds

Mon Mar 12, 2007 7:09 am

I have been searching (for quite some time now) for some beautiful backgrounds for my desktop, but have been unable to find any that fit the bill. The reason being, i want something that is 1920x1200 native, for my gorgeous Dell 2407W. Can anyone point me in the right direction (short of me going to CMH and photographing something myself, or better yet, waiting till I fly to LAX or ORD next and get a 747)? Preferably a United in new livery or a BA 747.

Just download one you like and resize it. How hard is that. You won't find many 1920x1200 images as it isn't a standard size.

The reason I don't want that is because I use my computer at work for about 10 hours a day between work and home, I really don't want to look at a grainy image in the background.

Good luck on finding a pic that's 1920px wide. 1600's pretty much as big as it gets (in 3 years of spending too much free time browsing photos, I've never seen anything bigger). Just set your desktop background color to "black," center a 1600, and you'll have a very nice looking photo surrounded by pure black  Smile

Here are some BA 744 1600s, a United 777 NC 1600, and a 1600 I just plain like.

PS: In this forum, the word you would want for a resized image is "pixelated," not "grainy"  Wink

Thanks for those links, exactly what I was looking for. Somehow, those 1600x1200 pics don't look too bad stretched. I totally understand that people don't exactly take many pics at 1920x1200, which is unfortunate  Wink. Thanks again. MCN

No problem. In many cases, when a photo is 1600px wide (or anything bigger than 1024px), a photographer will indicate that in the comment by saying "1600px" or "1600 px" or "1600 wide" or something like that - so if you want to find more, just search for one of those keywords. Took me about 2 minutes

Edit: Forgot "1600 pixel(s)" is also commonly used.

I use webshots program for desktop. Some people like some hate it but it does a really good job of streaching a image to fit your desktop.

Not sure why they would be grainy.... but hey, I guess you can just go take your own photos huh? Let us know how that works out.
