LAS Spotters Help

Sun Apr 01, 2007 7:50 am

I'm coming to LAS next weekend and plan to be at the viewing area early Sat. morning, April 7 or Sun. April 8th (weather permitting). I saw in a recent photo posted here that it's best to have a ladder. If anyone has an extra ladder and is planning on being there, it would be great if I could use it (although I'll just have a small rental car). Thanks in advance. In any case see you there.

Bad news is that I'm headed outta town the 7th on an early morning flight!! Six days in wonderful Hawaii. I sure wish I could be around. Any other weekend would work!!

Lots of people do rent small SUV's and manage to get on top of them with little effort. That is if you only want to shoot from the viewing area. There are other places to spot from but they will not afford you touchdown shots!!

Smaller zoom lens do get shots thru the chainlink if the filter size is like 62mm.

My buddy J. Whitebird will not be in LAS that weekend as far as I know. You listening Jason??

You will need to stand on the top of some sort of vehicle... When I was there we rented an F150 and stood in the back.. but to really got over the fence, we had to stand on the roof!!!

You will enjoy Vegas for sure,

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I've seen some 25L landing shots that look like they're not at the viewing area. Where are those taken from? I might have to switch and get an SUV for those touchdown shots.

Get a car that has a folding seat or a SUV/Minivan. There is a Home Depot hardware store close by and you can purchase a 6' fiberglass ladder for only $40. Keep it for the weekend and donate it to some lucky person or nearby construction site. Maybe you could even return it to the store for money back if you keep it in good shape!!?

Hi,the other spot you can try is the 7/11 parking lot just down the road from the viewing area.I was at the viewing area last weekend and as far as the light is concern the best is now between 8am-4pm as the sun angle is higher now comparred to both January and february.Sunday by far has the best traffic. You get a better variety of traffic on sunday comparred to Saturday.I will not be there until 11th at the earliest.Dave you knbow my name is sunman and Danny you guess been getting a lot of severe weather in TUL as of late.

Yes I have had talks with the airport police along the same stretch of fence.

But I usually stand back from the fence and approach it when something I want to photograph comes down Charlie. The only time I had any trouble is when a cop stopped and pointed to my truck 30 yds down the road on a dirt lot and he told me to move it...as it was on county land!!

Other than that I do not spend a lot of time there and come and go often!

You can go up to the fence in the viewpoint, keep away from it at other places.
