Welcome Back Kevin

Sat May 05, 2007 5:57 pm

A very warm welcome back for my friend Kevin Bates, whose images have returned to the database after some technical changes allowed the retrieval of previously removed images.

Kevin is an excellent photographer - not just of aircraft - and someone happy to offer advice on many issues. He has overcome many obstacles to continue to provide us with a wide range of images to view, and he continues to work hard to refine his editing technique to ensure he keeps up with the high demands that A.net requires of its members.

A stunning example from Kevin's restored portfolio:

I look forward to seeing many more of Kevin's photos in the future.

All the best.

Thank you for the kind comments, I would like to pass on my thanks to Mick Bajcar and Aad van der Voet for their assistance and support, not forgetting Henrik for writing the scripts to restore the images.

I look forward to seeing you all at Manchester one day soon!

cheers

Kevin

I am really pleased to have been able to help Kevin to get his images returned to the database though the main thanks go to Aad, Henrik and Johan. He left us for personal reasons about a year ago but now that these have been resolved, scripts were written for them to be recovered - no easy task.

My first meeting with Kevin came a few years ago by chance and he was responsible for introducing me (my Wife would say to blame) to digital when I was still using film. This re-kindled my interest in aviation photography and we have become firm friends

Kevin has a real flair for photography and even when we are standing side by side he still manges to take some unusual shots. Take a look, you will not be disappointed.

I too am very pleased to have Kevin back with us. I very much regretted that I had to delete his great collection of images last September.

Actually, it was about 6 months ago at the time Kevin asked me if it was possible to restore them. A year would probably have been too long, I don't think it would have been possible to restore the photos then. It took a lot of digging in old backups and I believe they were found in one of the oldest sets still available. Restoring photos and info that old also required pretty complex scripts to be written and tested (thanks Henrik!).

Anyway, Kevin is back and so are his photos, and that is what counts. Looking forward to seeing your new uploads, Kevin!

Aad.

Welcome Back Kevin!

I knew you wouldn't be away long!

I was stood next to Kevin for that Thomson shot and mine is no where near as good!

Have to catch you soon Kevin and Mick.
