The "Your First Accepted Photo" Thread

Wed May 23, 2007 9:57 am

Hi all,

I was surprised to find that I finally got a photo accepted here at Airliners.net today. Rather than start a self-glossing thread (which would be futile anyway, since it would most likely get deleted), I decided to start this one. So, post your first accepted Airliners.net shot!

Nothing may come from this, but at least it's something different from the "I Need Advice" lingo. I bought my 400D in January and have been teaching myself how to use it for a few months now and I don't regret investing in my new hobby one bit.

My first accepted shot, the Navy C-40A I recently flew on from Fallon, NV (KNFL) to Oceana, VA (KNTU), BUNO 165835:

Chris: I remember when you were trying to get that photo on here a few weeks back; it's always very nice to look at.

My first acceptance after... seven different photos rejected, I think. Got this one on my first try. It was worth it, because that particular day the temps were in the teens and I was freezing my toes off even with the occasional run into the heated car.

Not a good picture, but a neat one for me at least. It's also my only picture on A.net.  Wink Not surprising at all.

Thanks to ThierryD for editing this picture. Without his help, it would never have made it up.

This is my first and only photo. I got it accepted on my first try; it's the only photo I have ever uploaded. Thanks to Lew/ EWS for the help editing this picture. Right now I need to get my censor cleaned cuz it has like 4 or 5 dust spots.  mad

Exact date of uploading is not known, Johan had no such statistics back then. But it was somewhere in summer 1998.
At first a very crappy scan (in those days almost everything got accepted), later reuploaded with another crappy scan (but less crappy than before).

Accepted after 30 rejected pics    . But the fourth I sent after changing my workflow    . I used to make all editing actions and resize as last action, so I think it's a normal thing to have 30 rejections with such a workflow.

Not sure what I was looking for but I discovered Anet by accident. Enjoyed looking at the pictures and scanned a few of my early shots from the 70s. I think I submitted 6 and then left the next day for a week in Aruba. I came home to find four of the six accepted the same day ...

Not sure why those other two were rejected, but it wasn't long before I rescanned and re-uploaded them. Those first few acceptances got me re-involved in taking photos of aircraft, and I've enjoyed the years since. Not to mention the many friends I've made around the world.

I was looking through my slides a while ago and found a picture of 2 voodoos, but couldn't for the life of me remember where I took the photo. This looks like one of them. This was in '94 I think and they were both very dusty, not in this camo scheme. I'll have to get it scanned.

Much better than some of my later ones I think.
One of my first uploads from my D70, after a few scanned print rejections.
First rejected for centering but then accepted.
Needed little editing, although since re-uploaded downsized to 1024px wide.

After hundreds of rejections (I was using an Olympus point-and-shoot), this one finally got through. I was so excited I ordered a print and had it framed. Then I upgraded to a Canon 300D and necessary glass and now there are 465 others.

But because of this photo. I've become good friends with the guy who was flying it this day. He was flying 73's for US, then got furloughed. Brought back to fly E170's for MDA. Then furloughed when MDA got pushed to Repungent. He just got recalled for the E190. He's halfway through training.
