Trying To Got My First Accepted!

Sat May 26, 2007 7:41 pm

Hello everyone,

i'm pretty new to the forum, first post for me, but i've been around airliners for a couple of year browsing thousands of fantastic photos. i'm also new to aviation photography, i got a nikon D50 with a Sigma 70/210mm and i'm trying to got some photos accepted!

i've tried to upload two photos which were reject, the first one was really terrible but the second was was reject only for blurry, it was this one:

This was without editing.

After carefully reading the FAQ i found some tips about how to edit a photo and this is the result.

DHL A300

Jai,

The DHL is a nice shot, great background scenery and I love the colours. The main problem I see is with levelling, it may need a bit of CCW rotation (I've not looked carefully, I just get that impression). It could also do with being cropped a little closer to remove some of the dead space. Its a little low in the frame as well. Apart from that, I think its a great shot.

thx for the answer, that's what i need!!

i'll try to crop a little closer removing some sky and some pavement under the plane, hope that will also give a better centering

Quoting Jai (Reply 2):
Updated photo levelled and cropped:

I agree with Darren, the DHL is a very nice shot and properly edited it should get in no problem. Your second edit is as well as your first extremely oversharpened, it is very bright (a bit overexposed) and not centered. Feel free to contact me via my profile, if you want send me the original file and I'll see what I can do in Photoshop.

Cheers,

just edited a new one, hope did a better work!

i did a rotation of 0,6 to the left to level the plane, cropped to 1024*683, balanced (+10 to the black triangle) the level, applied 1 unsharp mask to the hole picture and 2 to the plane.

final? :d

Hi, i think only the DHL one stands a chance, but to my eyes it still needs a little bit of CW rotations. Thanks Yuan Le

Hey Jai cool ,

I think the DHL is the photo which looks closest to standing a chance of getting into the database (although personally, I would have kept the aircraft just a little higher in the frame, by cropping out some cloud; Just to avoid a potential center rejection sometime spit

redflag You could expect to get a quality & dirty rejection (from visible dust spots on the image) by uploading the Livingston Airbus shot, as well as quality rejections for all the others, mostly due to the back light from the sun behind the each aircraft.  melting

Since you mentioned you were new to aviation photography, if possible, always try to shoot these kinds of shots from the other side of the runway, with the sun behind you to light the aircraft. The shots have great potential though, especially with your excellent gear setup. Just keep shooting! hyper

Best Regards,
sun
