Would This Scan Be Acceptable?

Sat May 26, 2007 10:15 pm

Hi there,

I have scanned a slide from RIAT-Fairford 1995, but the aircraft is low in the frame:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...9507xx_scan20070518_WVB_1200px.jpg

Would this be allowed for a scan from a slide (there are only 4 other shots of this aircraft - all from the left side - in the database) or not? Any other problems?

Thanks and regards,

Walter

Hi Walter,

it looks good quality-wise for a scan and we are rather lenient on cropping on older shots. I'd just try to reduce the magenta cast a bit...

I consider the magenta cast to be unacceptable but it is very correctable. Just add some green until the greys are neutral

Thanks for the feedback, Giovanni & Mick! Much appreciated (as are the "personals" with the rejects, that is very helpful and is very good advise, now I just have to learn to do it right from the start...)

I will pull it from the queue and rework it!

PS: For some viewers that come in late (after pulling it from the queue), here 's a link to the same shot (but on my personal website):

http://walter2219.fotopic.net/p41612580.html

I have re-edited it (removed the color cast), and this looks indeed better:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...can20070518_WVB_1200px_re-edit.jpg

Unfortunately, I have noticed that another uploaded shot (which is already in screening for most of the day) has a similar color cast... if it would be accepted as such, I promise to re-upload a better/improved scan  Smile

PS: would this color cast problems be typical to my old slides or is it just old me (and my editing techniques)?

Best regards,

Walter

Walter
This magenta cast seems typical of old scanned slides, probably due to a fading dye.
It is usually correctable by adding green and sometimes a touch of cyan too (to remove red)

Thanks, Mick!

That's again a lesson learned! I was always comparing my edited result with the original slide, I 'll to improve that with future uploads!

Best regards,

Walter
