A Little Rejection Help Please!

Sun Jun 17, 2007 3:59 am

Hi All,

If possible I'm just after a few opinions on how I can improve some recent rejected shots.

These were rejected for colour. In the screening message I had a comment saying 'less croma please', although I have absolutely no idea what that means and can't find an explanation of 'croma' on the internet! Are they basically just a little too over-saturated or is there something else I can do to improve them?

On the final PIA 777 shot I can see the colour temperature is perhaps a little too warm, but what would you say generally? Any help is very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul

Yes, that's exactly what the screener is telling you.

Hello Paul.

I hope this finds you well. Nice to see some recent shots of yours in the MAN portfolio.

'Croma' is a very nice pizza restaurant here in Manchester, if that is any help  wink . I believe the word chroma refers to the saturation of a colour (sounds Greek to me).

I would tend to agree that these shots looks somewhat oversaturated - but not all wildly so. Certainly these look to have been taken in very bright lighting, which will be an important factor. Though the XL 737 does look oversaturated, I would not say the PIA 747 is - more too bright. If you had overcooked the colour of a PIA livery the rear part of the livery would look a lot more 'sandy'. The orange of the engine of the SAS and that fence does look rather unnatural, as does the tip of the US A330 (where the grass is also very green).

I really like your PIA 777 shot. The engine hiding that bit of wheel is a minor imperfection in an otherwise great motive. That looks eminently salvageable. If you think I can help in any way, feel free to get in touch (watch out for oversharpening - the Arabic at the front is showing jaggies, as is the black stripe).

Take care.

Paul

That would completely destroy the balance of the shot and the composition I was after, although I appreciate your opinion.

Paul, many thanks for your time and kind advice. It's very much appreciated.  Smile
