Paris Air Show: Priority Or Not?

Sun Jun 17, 2007 6:33 pm

Hi guys!

The Countdown for the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget is running and will end in less then 24h, so I thought it would be time to get clear on how the uploads from the show are handled this year. I know that normally the Paris Air Show is priority for all photos from start to end but with the recent discussion about priorities it might be good to give the uploaders an update on how it will be handled for the upcoming week.

I already now wish all the screeners all the best for the upcoming flood of pictures from the show and all the photographers good weather for the shooting and some common sense for the uploading.  Wink

New rules are being formulated but airshows in themselves, even Paris, will no longer qualify for priority screening. This does not mean that aircraft at Paris will not qualify, but we will not be screening everything simply because it happens to be present at Paris.
The new rules are :-

New schemes
New special paints
New aircraft types
New types for airline
Accident/incident (as long as the effect of an accident or incident are visible)
New hybrids
Special scheme military aircraft
Newsworthy events (Shuttle return to service, Restored Comet flight, last flight of the A380, etc)

You will see from this list that many of the aircraft that will be present at Paris will qualify in one way or another andf if they are accepted as priority at the start of the show you may upload them as priority for the duration of the show. We feel that this is the fairest way of doing things - it prevents too much bias towards the first person to upload, probably tomorrow !
This is not a major shift in policy, just a re-statement of it

I believe the 24hr window will still be valid for non-airshow pics, am I right?

Yes, nothing has changed for the normal 24 hour rule but it seems perverse that someone who visits a major airshow on the first day can stop anyone else getting image prioritised simply because they are away from home or cannot get on the first day.

Fairness was in mind in making this change. There are discussions going on behind the scenes and there is no guarantee that this will remain in place but this will apply for Paris - a sort of half-way-house to full priority for everything.
