Rainy Day And Antonov An-124

Thu Jun 28, 2007 9:02 pm

Hi!

Would like some critique on this photo before I even consider uploading it.

Heavy rainfall and AN-124 departure. Personally, I like it very much, but is it something for this database?

Thanks for looking.

i'd say no, the rain makes it to blurry.

Wow Jacob nice shot!
I think it´s still a bit soft in parts and also a bit dark. I don´t know what can be said about the motive here. I like the pic, it´s very nice.

Good luck with it.  bigthumbsup

Cheers

Thanks James and Lanas

Rain makes tricky conditions but the planes still fly. And we don't see Antonov here at ARN that often  Wink

I'll wait for some more input before wasting screener's time with uploading.

Hi Jacob,

I really like it, give it a bit more contrast and eventually downsize it to 1024 wide and upload it... it's a nice shot and should be accepted judging quality!

Hi Jacob,

Please follow Florians advise, as I really hope it does get into the DB! However, it might be that the screeners feel there is too much 'water' between the lens and the airplane, thus I feel there is a risk of a motive rejection. I sincerely hope not, but in any case, increase your chances and downsize to 1024, and upload to the queue!

I think it is definitely worth a try to upload. Your pic is sharp, level, no dust, good crop....the fact it is raining is not a flaw in the picture.

I have a similar "atmospheric condition" picture that got in.

I'd rather be flying.

Thanks for all replies. I am glad you like it, it is quite a special shot.

I will re-edit it following the advice from this thread and upload.

(It was shot from a parking lot using the excellent 80-400 VR lens @ 400mm.)

In my opinion the rain adds to the picture and in no way lessens its quality.
Also it's the first time I see the An124 with jagged engine exhausts; didn't know that modification existed on the Antonov.  eyebrow

Allright, here we go.

http://boplats.net/jajo/arn070628/ur-82009-03.jpg

I found 1200px to be better than 1024px on this shot. I lost too much details in 1024. I also improved brightness, soft parts and colors.

What do you think?

It's too bright and flat - it needs more contrast. And reduce it to 1024 pixels - it's not good enough to go bigger.

Your version looks to dark to me , I find that Jacob's version is better..

The rain makes the photo look brighter and flat. That was how it was looking in real life.

Maybe I'll give it a try, but I am not sure it will make it.

Any comments on this shot? Taken closer to the runway than Jajo's.
As Jacob said, Antonovs are pretty rare up here and IMHO well worth getting soaked for!

Jacob and Robert,

Quoting Jajo (Reply 10):

Much better in sharpness, contrast and colour, but way too bright. I think you´ve got a chance. Keep working on it  bigthumbsup

Looks to be a little dark and blurry, but great shot as well!

but way too bright

Thanks for feedback, Lanas. Do you think brightness in the first version (in post #1) is better? Someone said it was too dark. Maybe I should go for something in between. On my calibrated Apple Cinema-screen at home the newest version looks pretty OK, not too bright. At work on a crappy laptop the new version looks really blown out.

Haha. Hope your camera is dry now.

I like your version better than mine. Maybe a little dark.
