Wed Jul 11, 2007 7:16 pm

I intend on attending the Elvington airshow over the weekend of August 18-19 2007.

What is this show like for photos etc?

Ryan - if you haven't already seen it the attached link to the official show site should give you some background. There are some photo's / plans on there which will give you a feel for the area. The list of potential participants looks good too.

I went last year and enjoyed it - it's a comparatively low key show but with some good photo opportunities, its also not as busy as other higher profile shows.

Just hope for better weather, I attended on Sat last year and it wasn't too good (thunder & lightning) in the late afternoon. Having said that we've had enough rain over recent weeks here in the UK to last a year so fingers crossed.

Does the crowd face into the sun?

Didn't see the sun last year!

Runways are the usual UK - east/west (08 & 26) the crowd line is on the north side of the runway looking south so I would think, if the sun is out, it's not ideal.

Even though I live less than an hour's drive away, shamefully I have never been to the airshow. I understand that on normal days, when the Yorkshire Air Museum is open, you can go into the tower and have a look around. This is on the south side of the airfield, so would offer a decent position if the sun was out. I'm wondering if there is anywhere down by there you can get on airshow days?

Regards,

Tim.

I used to volunteer up there during the weekend when I was at college. If memory serves, while the tower is accessible, it's too far away from the runway (now), it's also full of exhibits!

Edit: If they are taxiing the Victor it's well worth it - it sounds great!

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

I've been a couple of times, the first was a typically cloudy affair but the second time was great and was fine for photos. As has been said it's a much more low key affair than the likes of RIAT and Waddo, but smaller crowds generally meant more photo ops. I'm going to try for this years one since Waddington was cancelled when i tried going on the sunday and i can't get down to RIAT.
