Yes, have them both, got the 70-200 f/4L before the 100-400L IS, a very good start. However started with the 70-300 IS, but I'm sooo glad I sold it!

Also, if you think you might need a little more focal length than 200mm, you should look into Canon's 1.4x extender. I initially used that with my 70-200 before purchasing the 100-400.
