New To SFO: Any Good Spotting Areas?

Wed Jul 25, 2007 5:26 am

As I have just moved to San Francisco, I am new to SFO (I've never been there before).

So, from any SFO regulars on here, I'd like to know more about spotting spots at SFO--good spots for photography, views, how to get to them, etc. I'm living in the Mission Bay area.

Thanks!

SFO isn't much good if you don't have at least 400mm of glass. Also, there isn't much of any place to spot inside the terminals, and whenever I seem to get a good shot, the windows leave this ugly green tint resulting in a color rejection. There is a great website for all the three bay area airports, explaining almost everything you need to know. For some reason the link i try to post isn't working so just type "Golden Gate Airliners flygga tripod" into to google and it is the first hit shown.

Here you go:

Photography at SFO is difficult due to the distance. Although if all you want to do is to watch, Bayfront Park is an excellent location for that. I suggest drive yourself south and come to SJC where the weather and photo conditions are so much better.

I disagree completely. Terminal photography at SFO is quite nice. There's a lot going on, and reasonably clean windows. Just walk up and down the piers and catch what you can. I can plug - err, I mean reference - some sample photos if you're interested.  cheeky

The train between terminals also offers a good view as you go to the rental car building.

SFO, you need to have 400mm lens I went there last December - it was bad for first time visitors, I had alot of rejected but one. Obviously SFO you need alot of practice to adjust. Yes SLC is much better but sorry you wont see much international airlines outside of USA (most domestic flight)
If I go SFO again, I better bring 400mm with f/2.8 IS USM
