Any Chance For This Cockpit Shot?

Thu Aug 09, 2007 8:37 pm

I had the chance to take some photos of this An2 Cockpit while the plane was in Leverkusen, but I never tried to upload a cockpit-shot yet... Does it stand any chance, or would it get a motiv for the cut displays in the low left?

Hi Bjorn,

Not sure about the motive, but I like it  Smile
I'd leave it in.

Björn

The angle is not that common. Generally cockpit pictures are not shot from such a close distance and angle. I think that the overexposed windows don´t help, as well.
I don´t know what will be of it. Leave it in for the moment. Maybe you can hear from a screener before it gets screened on the queue.

Hope it helps. Big grin

Cheers  Smile

Yep I know, but I wanted to try something different, because I find it kind of boring to see the same pictures (ie same angle, same crop every time with just a different reg.) again and again....
As for the overexpose, it didn't wanted to flash but it was very dark inside... (taken at 18mm, F3.5, 1/20s, ISO200 handheld..)
I ll leave it in the queue and wait what happens or till a screener joins the discussion..

Thanks for your opinions!

Hi Björn!

I'm not so worried about the motive; the picture is nice to look at and it really puts you into the driver's seat. Well done! What concerns me more is the blurry/soft instruments (like the GPS on top); not sure if it's bad enough to qualify for a rejection though.
Concerning the blown out windshields, they are not nice but since they are almost completely cut out I don't think they pose a major problem (cutting them even shorter on the top might help though).
On a general basis I'd recommend you always use a flash when shooting cockpits as the cameras just can't cope with the big lighting difference between the interior of the cockpit and the brightness from outside.
See the difference between flash and no-flash:

As Thierry says, always use flash in the cockpit. Meter for the light outside the window; keep those settings (camera on Manual); use the flash.

That way, both the outside and the inside will be correctly exposed.

Thanks all for your advices, otherwise I probably would have deleted it again from the queue  Wink

Just one thing out of interest, why would the cockpit category be removed from this shot? I ticked it, but right now when I look for it in cross data search, it isn't there anymore..

It's still there Björn but only in the thumbnail views; this issue has been there I think since the cross search has been introduced; when you open the image in medium or large format and then click on the cross search no categories appear. However in the tn views it works fine.
